To be honest, I never thought Pizza Hut had the ingenuity to make a pizza using garlic bread.
I knew they had the gall to stick cheese and pepperoni in the crust and have enough chutzpah to do something absurd in the future, like top a pizza with their Meaty Marinara Tuscani Pasta and then stuff the crust with their Creamy Chicken Alfredo Tuscani Pasta. However, simply topping a slice of garlic bread with meat, cheese, and sauce was something I didn’t expect.
Up to five toppings can be added to Pizza Hut’s Garlic Bread Pizza, but since I lack the chutzpah that Pizza Hut has, I ordered mine with just pepperoni. A part of me regrets not spending the extra money for more toppings because it would’ve been funny to see how the five toppings would fit on the pieces of garlic bread that measure three inches long and four inches wide.
As you can see in the photo above, Pizza Hut was liberal with the pepperoni. Because each garlic bread slice was given four slices of sausage, it was easy for me to get a little bit of pepperoni in every bite. Unfortunately, Pizza Hut wasn’t as liberal with the cheese and sauce. Each garlic bread had a thin layer of mozzarella cheese and an even thinner layer of sauce. I read elsewhere the pizza comes with container of marinara sauce, but mine didn’t.
If you love garlic, so much so that your co-workers refer to the scent you’re wearing as eau de garlic, this pizza will probably not satisfy your cravings for your favorite aromatic seasoning. When I first opened the pizza box, I couldn’t detect any garlic aroma; it smelled like a normal pizza. Only when I brought a piece up to my nose could I notice the recognizable smell of garlic bread. The garlic flavor was noticeable, but not overpowering. I do wish it was a little stronger, though.
While examining the pizza, I didn’t see any bits of minced garlic, but I did notice butter, so I assumed Pizza Hut used a garlic butter to flavor the bread. However, that’s okay because I’m sure 2010 Paula Deen would totally approve of that. Although, maybe not because they didn’t use a Deenspoon of butter, which I believe is roughly a quart of melted butter. Because Pizza Hut used significantly less butter than a Deenspoon, the pizza was not very greasy.
The slices of toasted garlic bread were about an inch thick; had nice, soft innards; and a crispy crust. Some slices had herbs affixed to them, but they didn’t seem to add any flavor.
Despite wanting the garlic to be a little stronger and the lack of cheese and sauce, Pizza Hut’s Garlic Bread Pizza was one of the tastiest items I’ve had in a while from The Hut. Both issues I listed aren’t deal breakers. The garlic isn’t overwhelmed by any of the other ingredients and the pizza maybe light on cheese and sauce, but it’s not light on flavor.
(Nutrition Facts – Not available on website, but imagine something made with butter, cheese, and pepperoni can’t be very good for us.)
Item: Pizza Hut Garlic Bread Pizza
Purchased Price: $11.99*
Size: 9 pieces
Purchased at: Pizza Hut
Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros: Damn tasty. Simple. Nothing is stuffed into the bread. Soft bread and crispy crust. Generous amounts of pepperoni. Not too greasy. Herbs sprinkled on bread make it look pretty.
Cons: Thin layer of cheese and an even thinner layer of sauce. Garlic and butter flavor might not be strong enough for some. Maybe not as filling as slices of pizza. Using a Deenspoon of butter on anything.
*Because I live on a rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, we tend to pay more for things, so you will most likely pay less than I did — probably $8.99.
Looks pretty yummy, I may have to order some for myself.
I wonder if Paula Deen used to take a bath in a tub filled with melted butter? She certainly could afford to.
I agree with this review. The garlic bread tasted kind of like the store bought frozen garlic bread you can get (which isn’t half bad).
I generally dislike everything Pizza Hut makes (it’s only a baby step above Little Caesar’s)….but this was a very good product, particularly relative to all of Pizza Hut’s other crap.
I was definitely surprised. What’s next? A good sandwich from Subway? An edible LTO from Dunkin Donuts? This garlic bread pizza gives me hope.
Hope for a better tomorrow.
You know how hard it is to make that pizza????? i sit back in the store and work my ass off for people like you. try working for a place like that im trying to get just a college job. But dont bitch, ive heard nothing but ggood things from the people eating in my lobby
It isn’t hard to make that pizza. Just saying. Also, everybody has different taste.. you shouldn’t be offended if someone doesn’t like the pizza. I work at a pizza hut and don’t think I’ll like it. (Garlic bread..not my thing). Also, it IS store-bought frozen bread. So.. why are you upset? I’m not trying to be mean or anything.. I just don’t understand your anger.
Lucky! Yours looks not burnt like mine was. Yeah, I got free marinara but I don’t think it’s standard as it’s not mentioned anywhere in the description on their website. Then again, I did write a complaint one time because I got a Cheesy Bite and no marinara for dipping(?!). It was a sad day…
And another product I’d have to leave the country for to try. =/ Checked my local website and this isn’t advertised anywhere, so I can only imagine what it tastes like based on your description. Ummmm Garlic Bread Pizza.. *salivates like Homer*
Another good review, Marvo.
or just get a 2.99 box of garlic bread sauce and cheese and cook it?
A little secret, they use the Texas toast you buy at the grocery store. Same brand, same product. They get a large box with about 50ish slices per box. -I quit my part time job at Pizza Hut before this debuted.
It tastes like store bought. If I wanted garlic bread for pizza I would of bought it myself and add cheese and toppings. I was dissatisfied because the advertising picture looked nothing like what I thought I was going to get. I know pictures don’t mean anything but this was way deceiving.
I was very dissatisfied. I ordered mine with xtra cheese and pepperoni. They charged me for the additional topping, but I did not get xtra cheese. In fact there was one slice that only the smallest amount of cheese on it. For the first time I didn’t even bother putting leftovers in my fridge, I just threw it away. From now on I’ll make my own Galric bread pizza.
This pizza was the greatest ive ever had in life!!
A
I got this pizza the.other day. Pizza hut tried to charge me $1 for each additional topping so I got only jalapenos on it. I asked if it came with a side for dipping and they said no it was an additional .50 cents for ranch or marinara. I love garlic and the pizza smelled very strong of garlic when I was driving home in my car. When eating the pizza I was pretty overwhelmed with the taste of garlic. Upon inspection I found not only did they use garlic bread they also added there minced garlic topping underneath the cheese. It was very good, but only because I love garlic and I wouldn’t recommended eating this pizza often because its very salty. Nor do I advise you eat pizza hut very often Haha. But sometimes when your on a budget or faded you gotta do what you gotta do.
i saw a sign on my local pizza hut for this and tried it tonight. it was very good. i thought i’d split my 9 slices up over two meals….nope.
i was bummed more by the lack of sauce than the lack of cheese, cause i love sauce!
with most things i eat at pizza hut, my heart hurts. but it was well worth it 🙂
It was burnt, and very crusty crunchy. Will not buy again
As a current Pizza Hut employee I was really curious to see what others thought of the Garlic Bread pizza. I’ve never tried it myself (not a fan of garlic bread..). Just watching it be made I agree there isn’t enough sauce! Our store has actually changed the “recipe” a tiny bit and we make sure each slice gets plenty of cheese. Our instruction materials do not say to include a cup of marinara sauce with the pizza, I doubt other stores do. If I were to order one of these pizzas I’d for sure order an extra cup, though! I’ve never heard of a Pizza Hut that carries minced garlic. Our garlic bread isn’t homemade.. It comes in a box on our truck- pre garlic-buttered. I think I’ll go ahead and try the pizza based on this review, though. I’ll use my “manager meal” discount and get it for free, that way I’m not wasting money if I don’t like it. Thanks!
i was surprised to see how tasty this was.what a teriffic idea. my only complaint—i wish i had ordered two.
