SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 10/4/2012

Here are some new products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers. We may or may not review them, but we’d like to let you know what new items are popping up. We’ll also occasionally throw in an unusual product.

Tastykake Kandy Bar Kakes 1

Tastykake Kandy Bar Kakes 2

These Tastykake Kandy Bar Kakes look skrumptious and delektable. It sukks I kan’t konsume them bekause the Tastykake kompany doesn’t sell their produkts here on this rokk. I am driving my spellchekk krazy. (Sukriya for the photo, Adam!)

Cool Whip Frosting

Do you know what I like about Cool Whip? It comes in a tub that’s easy to eat out of, and Kraft’s new Cool Whips Frosting also come in a container that’s easy to eat out of. It looks like my cakes will be naked. Cool Whip Frosting comes in three flavors — Chocolate, Cream Cheese, and Vanilla. (Salamat for the photo, Adam!)

Limited Edition Marshmallow Pebbles

I’ve mentioned several times on this blog that I have a thing for redheads and I believe it all started because of Wilma Flintstone. Because of my love for redheads, I’m probably going to buy a box of Limited Edition Marshmallow Pebbles, which don’t appear to be any different than the old Marshmallow Pebbles and is only a limited edition because Wilma is on the front.

Werther's Originals Caramel Specialties

If Werther’s Original’s specialty is caramel (yup, double apostrophe S’s), then what’s so special about these Werther’s Original Caramel Specialties. Along with the Caramel, CaraMelts, and Toffee Crunch varieties, there’s also a Milk Chocolate version of these Werther’s Original Caramel Specialties. The Snackpot reviewed the Toffee Crunch flavor. (Gracias for the photo, Kenneth!)

Nice Bacon Jerky

Bacon jerky! Nice! Natural smoke flavor added! Nice! Non-edible silica moisture absorber! Nice! It’s like Beggin’ Strips for humans! Nice! (Mahalo for the pic, Scott!)

If you’re out shopping and see a new product on the shelf (or really unusual), snap a picture of it, email it to us at [email protected] with “Spotted” in the subject line, and you might see it in our next Spotted on Shelves post.

  1. I feel the pain of anyone who is unable to get Tastykake products in their area. I grew up in Southern New Jersey and just took it for granted that Tastykake was everywhere — being an ardent fan of the Butterscotch Krimpets. Imagine my dismay upon moving to the Chicago area and finding that Tastykake does not exist out here! For many years, when visiting family “out East,” I smuggled home many packages of the Krimpets. However, they (the Krimpets, not my family) do not travel well in one’s suitcases — via plane or car. So I gave up. I will continue to envy those of you with Tastykake at your local stores!!

    1. Tastykake does ship… though it costs and arm and a leg.
I moved to the midwest where people think Hostess is the same thing. Breaks my heart.

      1. I’m in the Midwest too, and Tastykake has now replaced the defunct Hostess on our grocery store’s shelves, along with another new brand (Blue Bird? Something with a bird).

    2. A buddy of mine from Pennsylvania always screamed about how good Tastykakes were, and how he missed them so much since they were not available here in Texas. ( Little Debbie snacks are the queen here) However, Tasty kakes are now available in most stores here in the Austin area, and I am a hard core muncher of the reeses kandy bar kakes! Gotta try them.

have faith, they may soon be available in the Chicago area.

  2. ‘Nice!’ is the new Walgreen’s store brand. I haven’t had the bacon jerky, but their other jerkies are decent.

No tastykakes in my area either. 🙁

  3. Don’t worry about the TastyKakes, we bought the Reeses kind and they are ridiculously dry and the peanut butter is thick, I thought I was going to choke on the combo of dry cake and super thick peanut butter, and to be honest the flavor wasn’t even enough to overide the other flaws. Super disappointing.

  4. They have the Tastykakes here in the Northern Virginia area and the York mint flavor is better to me at least. The Reeses PnB is pretty bland and kind of tastes like the other PnB varities of other Tastykake products.

I’m surprised to see Marshmallow Peebles back. I’m sure there is no change in the product. It would be great if they did a spin with the Halloween theme though.
