SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 1/14/2013

Here are some interesting new and limited edition products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers.

Lean Cuisine Salad Additions

The Lean Cuisine Salad Additions commercial has been playing a lot on Hulu and every time I saw the un-skippable ad, it made me want to try it more. I finally found them! They’re all mine! MINE! Well, only this southwest-style chicken flavor, because I couldn’t find the other varieties — Asian-Style, Bistro Chicken, and Cranberry & Chicken. (Spotted by Marvo at Walmart)

Eggo Strawberry Drizzlers

Eggo Blueberry Drizzlers

I’m one of those people who has to fill each pocket with syrup before I eat a waffle, so I hope the blueberry or strawberry topping packets that come with these Eggo Drizzlers allow me to do that. (Spotted by Adam at Weis)

Honey Bunches of Oats Greek

A teacher somewhere in America is going to ask his or her class, “What are Greeks known for?” A child in the class is going to raise his or her hand, get picked, and answer with conviction, “Yogurt!” The teacher will smile and then say, “Yes, but what else?” No hand will raise. (Spotted by Marvo at Walmart)

Post Grape Nuts Fit

“Power-packed nutrition for your everyday adventure.” I’m going to honest and say Grape Nuts Fit Cereal is probably overkill for my everyday adventures, which consist of banging away at my keyboard, making sure I don’t slouch in my office chair, and lifting a 12-ounce can of Diet Pepsi every so often. (Spotted by Marvo at Walmart.)

  1. I’ve recently tried two things on the list:

1] LC salad additions – I’ve had the Southwest Chicken and Cranberry & Chicken varieties. The Southwest Chicken’s bacon vinaigrette was too vinegary for me, but good. I liked the balanced flavors of the Cranberry & Chicken’s toppings; it wasn’t too sweet or too tangy. If you’re not participating in the Delicious Rewards program, will you share the points code inside the box?

2] Honey Bunches of Oats – I’ve only had one bowl, and I’m not impressed, especially since it cost me $4.79. The yogurt clusters are a nice addition, but in my opinion, all Honey Bunches of Oats flakes become soggy too quickly.

  2. The salad thing. So I have to buy a microwaveable meal, then I have to buy lettuce, then nuke the meal wash the lettuce cut it up and mix it all together?

    “Simply Add Your Lettuce”

If I were the kind of person who has fresh lettuce on hand would I be buying Lean Cousine?

  3. I tried the cranberry and chicken salad cuisine. I dunno. It was a good try, but it was too sweet for me. I think the cranberries, plus the sauce, plus the sweet yellow peppers was just too much. The crunchy sesame sticks were a good distraction but I think I would’ve liked the contrast of a green pepper instead of the yellow.

  4. I bought the bistro chicken and cranberry and chicken lean cuisine salad additions. So far I’ve tried the bistro chicken, it was pretty good. I like the idea as far as when I have lettuce but not really much else- I often have vegetables and some salad fixings but don’t have a protein, so this worked for me. I don’t buy a lot of meat because of cost, so this is a quick alternative to buying and cooking chicken to go on salad. I liked the variety of the bistro chicken with the asparagus and crunchy onion strips, the bacon dressing was okay.
To me though, I prefer my salad toppings to be cold (except maybe recently cooked meat). It was weird having crunchy fresh lettuce with squishy vegetables. But that’s more of a texture issue I guess.
