SPOTTED ON SHELVES (SEASONAL EDITION) – 12/6/2013

Here are some interesting new and limited edition products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers. If you’ve tried any of the products, share your thoughts about them in the comments.

Great Value Sweet Cinnamon Tortilla Chips

With all the cinnamon stuff that comes out this time of year, I’m not sure if these Great Value Sweet Cinnamon Churro Tortilla Chips are a seasonal item or a regular item. (Spotted by J at Walmart.)

Market Pantry Salted Caramel Cream Cheese Spread

Salted caramel cream cheese doesn’t sound extremely appetizing. Well, at least, it’s not something gross like, I dunno, cranberry orange cream cheese. (Spotted by Eilonwy at Target.)

Lucerne Limited Edition Cranberry Orange Cream Cheese

(Spotted by Marvo at Safeway.)

Limited Time Only Nut Harvest Butter Toffee Dark Chocolate Almonds and Amaretto Milk Chocolate Almonds

Nut Harvest could’ve settled for normal chocolate covered almonds, but they said, “Nay! Thou nuts need be more!” (Spotted by Jamie at Walmart.)

Blue Bunny Seasonal Selections Perfectly Peppermint and Spumoni

Spumoni is a seasonal thing for fall or winter? If so, maybe they should move National Spumoni Day out of August. (Spotted by Jamie at Walmart.)

Thank you to all the photo contributors! 1. had the churro chips about a month or so ago, just kind of meh, more tortilla chip then anything… though one might argue better than the taco bell cinnamon nachos

    1. Agreed, too much corn and salt flavor. I haven’t seen the Mission ones this year (seasonal the last two years) but they at least were more cinnamon-dominant, tho also corn-based. Still missing the Festida cinnamon flour tortilla chips.

  2. The salted caramel cream cheese spread is, alas, kinda gross. It has a texture I associate with plaster skimcoat, more than with cream cheese, and the flavor is just generically sweet-and-salty. It did not taste good on Market Pantry pumpkin waffles.

*goes off to do the my-photo-got-used happy dance*

  3. I got Spumoni and Peppermint candy ice creams at Fred Meyer, in almost identical containers, but under the Kroger brand. Hmm. Makes me wonder.

Very good, in any case. I wait all year for these two flavors.

  4. eilonwy, I thought I was the only one who did the dance!!!
the cranberry orange cream cheese makes my spine crawl every year it comes out. in all fairness, i haven’t tried it, but it does not sound even remotely appealing.

  5. Panera has a cranberry orange cream cheese spread that comes out around the holidays that I think is really, good for what it’s worth.

  6. J Rose — Kroger owns Fred Meyer, along with a bunch of other regional nameplates. Here in Arizona, they’re Fry’s, but the house brand products on the shelf say Kroger.

Manavee — Okay, now I’ve got to try the Panera cranberry-orange cream cheese! I bailed last time because the Paradise Bakery (secretly Panera due to a joint venture circa 2007) near work is the Panera Of The Former Soviet Union, where you queue for ages in hope there’ll be food when you get to the front of the line.

Sylvia — Heck yeah! The dance has major moves, too.

  7. Yeah, I knew Kroger = Fred Meyer, I was wondering if Blue Bunny was making ice cream for them though. That would be worth knowing.

  8. I bought the cranberry-orange cream cheese out of curiosity and it was actually pretty good. It tastes like…uhm…I guess that pink fruit salad stuff with the marshmallows. That’s the best description I have for it. If you dig that stuff, you may like it too.

  9. The Nut Harvest chocolate almonds are really good, especially the toffee ones (even though I’m not usually a dark chocolate fan). Well worth a try if you see them on sale. You can have the illusion of healthy nutritional value, too.

    1. To clarify, I had the dark chocolate. The butter toffee is very subtle, didn’t notice till I read the package, but it gives the almonds a very slight crunch. Buy 2 bags you will be glad you did! Can’t wait to try the amaretto ones!

  10. I really like the Nut Harvest ameretto chocolate covered almonds. I just purchased them. Sometimes they are at the store and sometimes it is not carried. They are really good. They should be sold all year round.
