Tastykake Banana Pudding and Strawberry Cupcakes

I wonder which East Coast baked goods maker folks prefer — Tastykake or Entenmann’s. I hope a civilized argument starts up in the comments. (Spotted by Jason at Walmart.)

Awesomesauce! Another way I can utilize my oven other than frozen pizzas. (Spotted by Stephanie at Stop & Shop.)

  1. Entenmann’s. They have a wider selection in terms of the types of products (loaf cakes, danishes, etc.), and I will gladly ship you a box of donuts from each to compare sometime. Their mini chocolate chip cookies are frankly the standard in packaged cookies in the mid-atlantic, and could pass as homemade ANY day. That said, a butterscotch krimpet is a gift from God.

  2. I prefer Enternmann’s if I buy a prepackaged baked good….they have a lot of very good options.

Those Campbell’s sauces are actually really good. I’ve not tried the oven ones but they have a Marsala(add more mushrooms to it and it’s amazing) and the other ones are great.

  3. I like both. I shouldn’t eat either because of dairy and egg… But their little pies are actually usually non- allergenic for me. The E’s Tasty Bites are too tasty. I always say I’m going to freeze them and eat just one little muffin at a time. Yeah, and hell froze over yesterday.

I first learned the joys of Entenmann at my aunt&uncle’s place in Maryland near DC. Is that close enough to mid-Atlantic? My uncle always said they were the best. They were certainly better than anything I had tasted up to then. They finally arrived in my local in the Midwest many years later, I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything mediocre from them. I’ve tried cookies, muffins, donuts, cakes, and pies.

TastyKake didn’t arrive here until Hostess briefly expired and people were desperate for a Twinkies fix and TK had a clone. I was happy because Hostess puts animal fats in almost everything so I can’t even try with a clear conscience. TastyKake, Entenmann’s, and Krispy Kreme are usually made with veg fats (butter is ok for me and I pretend I don’t know where gelatin comes from if it’s way down on the list). Still usually allergenic, but I eat them occasionally anyway. They’re all worth trying, definitely not a waste of money.
