Wendy’s is testing two spicy menu items — Ghost Pepper Fries and the Jalapeño Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Both feature jalapeños and a Ghost Pepper sauce, and the chicken sandwich has a spicy chicken fillet. Impulsive Buy contributor Adam snapped the photo above from a Wendy’s location in Maryland. The chain is also testing the products in Michigan.
With the 1-2 punch of jalapeños and Ghost Pepper sauce, I wonder if Frosty sales will increase at the locations where they’re testing the two menu items.
If you’ve tried the sandwich or fries, let us know what you think of it and how spicy is was in the comments.
Hello impulsive buy ! I was waiting for you to mention this new product at wendys. I tried the fries over the weekend at a wendys near Frankfort, IL. I remember opening the box and already I was unimpressed. It is pretty much their nacho cheese sauce that they add to the baked potatoes just poured on top like a big “gloppy” mess with 1 tablespoon of jalepenos on top. Within 2 minutes, my fries were already soggy and difficult to eat with your fingers. The bottom fries of course did not have any sauce on them so they were plain and of course soggy as well. I was so excited about this product because of its heat factor but there was absolutely no ghost pepper in my fries and the 1 spoon of jalepenos didn’t do it for me. Overall I would have rather got the regular fries than this new product. I would give it a 1/10.
Thanks for the info! I was gonna try this tomorrow here in Wa., but im sure you are right. I had the blazin chicken at jack in the box, that had ghost pepper sauce and the only little almost no heat came from the pickled jalapenos. Thanks again for your opion. I will save my money.
What is on this new hot spicy sandwich that sup0se to be good
Is this sandwich suspose to be really good is it really that hot or good what should you drink with it besides water or milk let me know
The Ghost Pepper items are also avail in South Carolina however I have seen no takers.
I just ate them in South Carolina and they were horrible. They had the greasy nacho cheese on the fries and no ghost peppers what so ever. I thought it was strange at first to see that they were selling “ghost peppers” on the fries but I just called customer service and they told me the truth: So the peppers on the fries are cut up jalapeños but the greasy nacho cheese has some source of ghost pepper essence in it. Now this got me very mad because to someone that has never tried jalapeños before could probably be convinced they were ghost peppers but no one I repeat NO ONE would think there was anything spicy about the “ghost pepper” sauce. Heck even regular nacho cheese is sometimes spicer than what I just ate. I am very unimpressed and very upset because of the lies that Wendy’s is feeding us. I would rate this meal a 2/10.
They have these in Washington state also, tried the fries, so very delicious, not very spicy though.
Thank you for being the first positive comment I have seen thus far. Both of these items are SO GOOD, and what is funny, is the people in these comments saying “they’r was NO ghost peppers on my fries. Lol, I grow ghost peppers. They are the hottest pepper on earth, and if Wendy’s put actual ghost peppers on their sandwiches or fries, they would be facing lawsuits due to people’s throats closing and resulting in death or serious hospital stays. But obviously these people have no idea what they are talking about, and that also goes to show that most Americans are highly opinionated on subjects they are completely ignorant of. And that makes me laugh. Both of these items are delicious if you can stand a little heat. And as far as I’m concerned it is just the right amount of heat. 10 out of 10 here. Wendy’s hit a home run with this one, and I would hate to see idiots like that make them disappear because of they’r uneducated decisions
Daym Drops did a review on these on Youtube and it was very interesting. The sandwich got a perfect 5/5 and said it had a great kick and flavor to it but the Ghost Pepper Fries were good…but not at all spicy. He said it tasted like they put celery on it instead of peppers of any sort…got a 3/5 though for flavor being good.
Had the fries at the 45th st/3rd ave Wendy’s in Manhattan yesterday. They were very good but not spicy whatsoever. The fresh jalepeno added some great texture to the fries otherwise completely covered in pepper sauce and cheese. would eat again, especially for a 50c combo upgrade
We have them in ohio.
Why does every “spicy” menu item have to pile on every conceivable spicy component? I mean, seriously: ghost pepper sauce, jalapenos AND a spicy chicken filet? What, you couldn’t jam any peppers into the bun? I love spicy but it’s overkill.
Ok First off THOSE ARE NOT GHOST PEPPERS Wendy’s dont have the guts to put real Ghost pepper in their stuff any chili head would know by the look of those peppers on there those ARE NOT GHOST CHILI
As I mentioned in the post, they’re using a ghost pepper sauce, not ghost peppers. I also mentioned in the post that the items have jalapeños.
I think companies stretch the truth when they called something ghost chili. The heat level has to match the pepper used imo.
By far, the best chicken sandwich I’ve had in a long time. Perfect amount of heat, and the jalapeños added a nice texture.
It is also being tested in Wilkes, NC. Im going to try it for lunch today!!!!
for the average person, and among fast food items, yes the chicken sandwich is hot.
fast food chains will never sell something supposed to melt your face off like a suicide hot wing sauce or something
First, I must say not every Wendy’s prepares the menu items identically. Here in Titusville, Fl, we have 3 locations. The Garden St & Washington St locations are the best. At the Rt 50 food is sometimes good…but usually lacking. EXAMPLE…THE GHOST FRIES. They simply put the hot cheese on the fries and a teeny
amount of chopped jalapeño AT GARDEN STREET THEY ARE DIVINE…. so divine, I just ate
TWO ORDERS. THERE IS PLENTY OF THE CHEESE ON TOP OF THE FRESH CRISPY FRIES….MINE WERE. n o t SOGGY….(anything will eventually get soggy if you don’t eat it
eight away from the steam and cheese on dry fries). To the person who said their fries were soggy…possibly you ate them at home. Also, you said there was no cheese on the bottom fries. There would be if you flipped them over and mixed it all together. My guess would be that Wendys does this so they don’t get soggy. The ones I had at Garden St were fresh, hot & crispy…. on top was plenty SHREDDED cheese, lots of the spicy cheese sauce and a good 2 plus tablepoons of the chopped, crispy
FRESH green jalapeño pepper. They were delicious !!
I have not tried the sandwich. I am not affiliated with Wendy’s… I’m just a customer.
Not hot at all, but made for a nice slightly spicy late night meal. Recommended for those who’d like a little kick. A little.
Eat the fries with a fork. Eat the burger if you dare.
My butt hole is on fire today!!
I have had them in Fort Worth several times over the last two weeks. Can’t get enough of the chicken sandwich and the fries (while not as hot) have been very good at each location I have tried.
That sandwich though… FANTASTIC. Easily the best spicy chicken sandwich from a fast food place. It can get hot but it is extremely satisfying.
The fries, however, are more like a lightly spicy nacho cheese sauce with good flavor. The amount of diced jalapenos have been generous on both.
Fries were good, sauce has a nice flavor. I eat superhot peppers regularly, so I didn’t personally expect to detect any heat. After a few bites, I sprinkled Carolina Reaper powder on them and then they were perfect…
Haha awesome!
I tried them today and thought they were really good. I would love a little more heat though. Can’t wait to try the sandwich!
I just had then at Wendy’s in Las Vegas. I expecting hot ghost peppers I was surprised to get anything hotter than jalapenos. Although good I was disappointed especially because how soggy they were.
We thought the ghost peppers were fantastic–please continue!
The sandwich is very good. Nice kick of heat when you’re craving spicy. It’s definitely not over the top though. Adding lettuce and tomato for some texture and cool flavor would make ot better. The fries, not so much. I would order the sandwich again but I can do without the fries.
I just tried these and they were disgusting and not spicy at all. I was so excited when I saw them on the menu but was very disappointed.
If you want to know what fries that have chopped bell peppers on them taste like, this is your dish. If you, like most are looking for heat…keep looking. I’ve had spicier oat meal.
Eating it right now, definitely on the weak side.
I was personally expecting some sort of deep fried ghost pepper so needless to say I was disapointed to receive a tray of regular fries drenched in some sort of nacho cheese sauce topped with jalapenos
Step it up, wendys
I tried the fries today. They have a nice flavor but very disappointing in the heat. I have extensively sampled salsa and peppers ranging from mild to several million Scoville units and everything from Ghost Chilis, Devils Tongue, many varieties of Habaneros to Thai Chilis and many more. When something is labelled Ghost Chili I expect it to have some heat to it. This had heat more like a weak Jalapeno. In fact I don’t think the sauce had any heat, only the diced jalapeno on top.
Wendy’s is just using the name Ghost Pepper to jump on the band wagon for the popular pepper. I’d be surprised if there is actually any Ghost Pepper in the sauce.
I haven’t had the fries but I absolutely love the Jalapeno Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich. I have gotten it several times already (with regular fries) and I think it’s delicious. I will be disappointed when it’s gone….
just had 10 minutes ago….disappointing….ive had spicier sugar
Very disappointing. The spicy boneless buffalo wings they had a few years back were hotter and even those were just OK at best. These fries have no business having the “ghost pepper” name attached to them.
I agree with every review I’ve read on here. They aren’t spicy…I’d say they’re as spicy as fresh ground black pepper. They taste ok, but if there’s any ghost pepper in this sauce at all, it’s VERY diluted. I do think the peppers on top are jalapeños (not green peppers), but they’ve been chopped and soaked in water or something and have lost any kick at all. Again, I don’t think they taste bad, just disappointing if you’ve looking for ghost peppers.
I tried these today and I was so disappointed. They have a nice flavor, but almost no heat. The jalapenos were hotter than the ghost pepper sauce, for Pete’s sake (but even they were very mild).
Tried today and they were so covered with jalapeños that I had to scrape 3/4 of them off.
I loved the taste of the fries and the sauce after I did that. Next time I will ask for the peppers on the side. These were delicious but this they need to pay more attention to the quantity of peppers they put on.
Both the sandwich and the fries are delicious. That being said, they are not hot. The coating on the spicy chicken is hotter than the “ghost pepper” sauce. The fresh jalepenos on top must be bell peppers, because they have no heat. But, taste-wise, this is where it’s at. I hope they stick around and I’d love to try a burger option.
These fries do not have even a hint of ghost peppers. These fries are an insult to the ghost pepper, the hottest pepper in the world up until the Carolina Reeper was developed. I have eaten ghost peppers and sauces made from them and can report one characteristic of the ghost pepper not present in these fries: The tasted hotness of a ghost pepper become more intense with time, peaking several minutes after tasting and lasting for around 30 minutes. Mad Dog Inferno sauce and Quaker Steak and Lube’s Triple Atomic Wings use ghost peppers and any one who compares can tell the difference; these fries have no related taste. I’m very disappointed. If you like chopped jalapenos, go for it. Otherwise, don’t expect anything too spicy or hot.
I would agree mostly on your comment, but there is actually a pepper imbetween the reaper and the ghost. Trinidad Scorpion. But they definitely have no ghost pepper.
I thought the fries and sandwich were both great….not very spicy in my opinion, however my husband was sweating bullets. (Some people just can’t take the heat)
However, eat with caution, because 8 hours later I am in PURE AGONY on the toilet….sorry Wendy’s, I will not be eating it again!
I see I’m in the minority when I say that I loved the fries and would get them again! It would be a liability for Wendy’s if they made food that was too hot. I am not sure why people expected super hot. To me, they had a nice, little kick. They fresh jalepenos were a nice addition. I even had seeds on mine. I wish I had some in front of me right now! Next I will try the sandwich.
Exactly!
I am addicted to this sandwich, and everyone I talk to says the same thing. I hope they don’t stop selling it. In my opinion it is by far the tastiest sandwich Wendy’s has ever had on their menu.
A fast food chain will never make anything really spicy, that is a lawsuit waiting to happen. It’s all creative marketing, to get you in the door.
I did not try the fries but was addicted to the sandwich. And they just stopped selling it! The sauce and the fresh jalepenos…mmm great flavor and I am upset they didn’t keep selling it, at least for the duration of my pregnancy. *tear*
They still have it in Pennsylvania. Haha maybe take a road trip? Lol
The ghost fries are o.k. But nothing special. Not very hot and need to be eaten with a fork. It’s fine for a snack though. I just tried the sandwich today and was very disappointed. It is a chicken party slathered in a bright orange sauce….”ghost sauce”, sprinkled with diced jalapeños, and a single piece of red onion. The bun kept sliding off because of excessive sauce. Aside from the moderate heat, the sandwich doesn’t have any other flavor. They could do so much to make this great…..add a tomato slice, get rid of the nuclear orange color sauce and substitute with a tangy cheddar or ranch. As is this is a big fail.
Chicken patty not party. Auto correct strikes again.
?these people are CRAZY, uneducated, and opinionated on things they are completely ignorant of. So many comments about how they got NO ghost peppers on the sandwich or fries. If they knew anything about a ghost pepper (that I grow in my garden by the way) they would know, it is the hottest pepper on earth. And that if you ate one by itself, u could actually die. So if you knew that, you wouldn’t post a comment about expecting to have “minced ghost peppers” on top of your fries, and would know that even 1 ghost pepper could make GALLONS of hot cheese sauce, simply by being cooked into it. (Hence the ghost pepper sauce)…. Anyways as far as a review goes, these items are FANTASTIC. The jalepeno compliments the ghost pepper sauce wonderfully. And I hope they don’t do away with either of them because of idiotic comments like the ones below.
