Flavor Swap is Lay’s latest promotion and it involves give us the power to decide which flavors stay on the shelves and which are gone forever (although as Lay’s Do Us a Flavor has taught us, most likely not forever and brought back as limited time only flavors). Korean Barbecue is being pitted against Honey Barbecue, while Smoked Gouda & Chive is going against Cheddar & Sour Cream. (Spotted by Chris B at Giant and Weis Markets.)
If you’re out shopping and see an interesting new product on the shelf, snap a picture of it, and send us an email (theimpulsivebuy@gmail.com) with where you found it and “Spotted” in the subject line. Or reply to us (@theimpulsivebuy) on Twitter with the photo, where you spotted it, and the hashtag #spotted. If you’ve tried the product, share your thoughts about it in the comments.
I’m gonna have to keep my eyes peeled for these. Gotta try it.
Based on (https://www.flavorswap.com/), the other battles are:
Fiery Roasted Habanero vs. Flamin’ Hot
Kettle Cooked Olive Oil & Herbs vs. Kettle Cooked Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper
I’ll try the cheddar battle but doubt my palette is sophisticated enough to taste much difference.
Yum, i’d try both!
I found all the flavors this past weekend but only picked of these flavors for starters. The Korean BBQ are fantastic. They have a nice smoky BBQ flavor, reminds me of something grilled on a charcoal grill. Smoked Gouda is similar to the Cheddar and Sour cream flavor but better. The smoky flavor gives it a nice punch. Vote for these to stay…
We tried the Korean Barbecue and the Smoked Gouda & Chives (so far).
I liked the flavor of the Korean BBQ ones – they instantly smelt and tasted of that luscious charred meat you get… but I found then off-puttingly sour after a few. Not in the good way some Korean sauces can be sour, but in a vaguely chemical/industrial way. My husband loved them.
The Sour Cream & Cheddar are my favorite standard Lay’s flavor (though I stick to the same in Ruffles because… Ruffles!) and I’ll be a little sad to see it go if it does. The Smoked Gouda had an authentic “funk” to it and I dig it – but it tasted like they just sprinkled some of the Sour Cream & Onion mix into the Sour Cream & Cheddar mix and called it a day. The nose bouquet was a lot more thrilling than the actual taste.
I just got a bag of Korean BBQ, gouda and Habanero. The Korean BBQ is AMAZING!!! haven’t tried the other two yet but any new chip flavor is a welcome thing. Make sure you go and vote everyday for the new flavors…change is good.
