Church’s Chicken is known for its hand-battered, fried chicken. But the chicken chain stepped out of its comfort zone to offer the new Naked Smokehouse Half Chicken.
It features a chicken half with white breast and tender dark meat that’s been marinated in smoky spices. Instead of batter or breading, a spice rub is applied to the chicken’s skin. A half-chicken portion with Church’s signature Honey-Butter Biscuit starts at $3.99. The menu item will be available through July 31 or while supplies last at participating locations.

I tried it and while the chicken looked great, it tasted kinda MEH. I prefer their regular spicy fried chicken.
The first thing you smell is the rub. It smells just like Lay’s Barbeque potato chips… Which is great, if you like that sort of thing. But the entire time I was eating it, it just kept reminding me of those chips and I could not differentiae that taste from the chicken. So that was kinda a let down.
Extremely good. Wish it was not limited time only.
Chicken skin was crispy and very tasty. Dark meat was tender, juicy, and well cooked but spice rub had not penetrated the meat,; so, it smelled much better than it tasted. Breast was overcooked, dry and tough.
