PROJECT: Create Your Own Ben & Jerry’s Flavor

It’s amazing how many Ben & Jerry’s flavors there are. I’m also amazed that Ben & Jerry’s hasn’t done what Lay’s and Oreo have done, which is offer fans an opportunity to come up with their own flavors.

Even though Ben & Jerry’s hasn’t done it, I’m curious to know what flavors Impulsive Buy readers can come up with if someone took the time to painstakingly go through all of Ben & Jerry’s recent ice cream flavors and create a list of all the components the brand uses.

So I took the time to painstakingly go through all of Ben & Jerry’s recent ice cream flavors and created three lists — one for all the ice cream bases Ben & Jerry’s uses, another one for swirls, and the last one for mix-ins.

I didn’t include the non-dairy, frozen yogurt, and sorbet flavors because mix-ins and swirls with sorbets would be weird and the non-dairy and frozen yogurt flavors overlap the ice cream flavors.

Also, some of the ingredients sound like they’re pretty much the same thing (I’m looking at your Gooey Marshmallow and Toasted Marshmallow), but I kept them separate anyway.

So pick an ice cream base or two, pick a swirl or two (or three), pick mix-ins, and, of course, come up with a cute name for the flavor. Share your ideas in the comments.

Here’s my idea for a flavor. It’s called “Wake Me Up Before You Coco.” It features chocolate and sweet cream coconut ice creams, coconut and fudge swirls, and espresso bean fudge chunks.

Here’s another idea for a flavor. This one is called “No, That’s Not Too Many Nuts…Oh Wait, That WAS Too Many Nuts.” It has peanut butter and pistachio ice creams, crunchy peanut butter, almonds, pecans, and walnuts.

Are they any good? I have no idea. Although I imagine the nuts one is awful.

Have fun!

  1. What a fun project, and with so many possibilities! I would have to go with:
    Vanilla malt base
    bourbon caramel and fudge swirl
dark fudge chunks and chocolate chip cookies mixed in

    1. I have 2 ideas…I am a big fan of salty-sweet!

Vanilla base, whiskey carmel swirl, roasted pecans and fudge covered toffee bits.

also peanut butter base, caramel swirl, peanuts and fudge covered caramel as mixins.

  2. Graham cracker base
    Mascarpone and malt chocolate swirls
    Chocolate covered cannoli chunks

    Holy Cannoli – flavor name

    1. They actually used to have a Holy Cannoli flavor back in the day. You can see it in their flavor graveyard, yours sounds way better though.

      1. That’s my point they neee to bring it back and revamp
        It

RIP oatmeal cookie chunk , what a cluster, brownie ale, and candy bar pie … why they are gone … just stupid

        1. I STILL miss Candy Bar Pie. I miss Oatmeal Cookie Chunk, too, but I really mourn the loss of Candy Bar Pie.

  3. I cannot believe you compiled a whole list of flavors, add-ins, and stir-ins. That is amazing. You must have been a Library & Information Science major. If you are interested, here is how HuffPost rated B&J’s flavors: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/ben-and-jerrys-ranking_us_5979f8ade4b0da64e877322b?section=us_taste

“According to representatives from Ben & Jerry’s, their five most popular ice cream flavors are: Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Half Baked, The Tonight Dough, Cherry Garcia and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.”

  4. Dough’s Out for Harambe:
    – Banana Ice Cream
    – Brownie Batter Swirl
    – Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
    – Peanut Butter Cookie Dough

    Stale memes are delicious 😉

  5. Peanut butter and pistachio, mixed? I’ve never thought about it, but I bet that would be AMAZING! Both of your ideas sound like something that would make me finish off a small bowl and go back for the pint, hating myself for wasting a perfectly good bowl in the first place and hating myself for not having more self control. *shrugs* Oh well, it is what it is!

Let me try: Cotton Candy and Red Velvet Cake base with Gooey Marshmallow swirl completed with Cinnamon Bun Dough and Red Velvet Cake Pieces. It’s called: The sweet that overcame the sweet tooth.
    I’m bad at this.

But really, what I would LOVE to see Ben & Jerry’s set out to accomplish is at least one pint inspired from exotic flavors.
1.) Purple Taro ice cream with a gooey marshmallow swirl and white fudge chunks. “Purple Paradise”
2.) Black sesame ice cream with toasted marshmallow swirl and fudge-covered roasted almonds. “Dark Side”
3.) Buco Pandan ice cream with a coconut and gooey marshmallow swirl topped with shredded toasted coconut pieces. “Seeing Green”
Names could use some work, and I’m sure the recipes could use some tweaking, but I LOVE exotic flavors! Definite niche in the ice cream market, people can’t ask for it because they don’t know what they’re missing!

  6. Chocolate pudding ice cream with a peanut butter fudge swirl and crunchy peanut butter sugar bits.

    “Pudding on the Bits”

  7. Complete Breakfast:
    Cereal milk base
    Cereal crisp swirl
    Chocolate cereal crisp swirl
    Espresso bean fudge chunks

    Hair of the Dog:
    New Belgian Brown Ale base
    Bourbon brown butter swirl
    Bourbon caramel swirl
    Dark chocolate whiskey cordial cups
    Pretzels

  8. Some time ago, after having a “Red Rock Cake”, I actually sent B&J’s a suggestion to create the flavor. It’s a Red Velvet Cake base with caramel and fudge swirls, and marshmallow and walnuts mixed in.

  9. Vanilla bean base
    Peanut butter cookie dough
    Cinnamon struts all swirl
    Peanut butter swirl

Nut-Cin To It! (Lol someone please help me come up with a better name)

  10. Raspberry Icecream, with raspberry swirl, cheesecake swirl, white fudge chunks and cake pieces.

No idea for a snazzy name though D:

  11. Vanilla Cake Batter base
    Cream Cheese Frosting swirl
Cake Pieces, Choc Chip Cookie Dough, Fudge Brownies, Mini Peanut Butter Cups, Red Velvet Cake Pieces, Shortbread Cookies mix ins

I call it: “F*ck it, why not?”

  12. Coffee and sweet cream base, a swirl of salted caramel and mix-ins of roasted pecans and cinnamon bun dough. It can be called Brunch Brew, since this idea of brunch seems to be all the rage these days.

Not a coconut fan, but your second flavor sounds like a good trail mix 🙂

  13. I would call my creation: Wake-Up Blend.

Coffee ice cream with Speculoos Cookie Butter and cinnamon bun dough.

  14. Here’s my idea:
    Pumpkin cheesecake base,
bourbon caramel swirl and cream cheese frosting swirl,
    and cinnamon bun dough.

    Called “Autumnal Delight”

  15. Pumpkin cheesecake base with butter cream frosting swirl and cinnamon bun dough chunks.

    “Autumnal Equinox”

  16. Coffee base with fudge and peanut butter swirls with fudge brownie chunks and chocolate sandwich cookies mixed in!

  17. Butterscotch Ice cream, Butterscotch swirl, Butterscotch Toffee Flakes
and I would call it “Scotchy Scotch Scotch 2”

  18. Morning Joe:

    Coffee and Vanilla bases
Cinnamon streusel and brown butter swirls
Vanilla cake pieces and espresso bean chunks

  19. Hula Girl Swirl
Sweet cream coconut ice cream, fudge swirl & almonds

    Love At First Bite

Red Velvet cake, Rasberry Swirl & Strawberries

  20. Banana base
    Raspberry swirl
    Shortbread Cookies
    Fudge-Covered Toffee Pieces

Murder on the short yellow bus crunch

  21. I call this one, creatively, Cheesecake: Cheesecake base, cheesecake swirl, cheesecake chunks

  22. I went to random.org and randomised the 3 lists and came out with these ice creams:

Pistachio Sundae: Pistachio base, fudge swirl, fudge-covered waffle cone pieces

S’more S’mores: Buttery brown sugar base, toasted marshmallow swirl, dark fudge chunks

Crazy PB&J: Raspberry base, crunchy peanut butter swirl and cinnamon bun dough
