Hardees Roast Beef

Arby’s, I mean, Hardee’s has brought back its Roast Beef Sandwich.

Oh, you didn’t know Hardee’s had one. According to this Daily Meal listicle, Hardee’s was bought by the same company that owned the Roy Rogers chain and sometime in the 1990s Hardee’s sold roast beef sandwiches based on Roy Rogers’ recipes.

The chain also sold fried chicken, but let’s get back to roast beef.

Hardee’s Original Roast Beef Sandwich features slow-cooked beef, hand-dipped in rich au jus, and no veggies between two seeded buns. The returning item is available at participating restaurants and customers can get 2 for $5 for a limited time.

  1. I think I had one back in the 80s or 90s? As I recall it was pretty tasty – similar to an Arby’s sandwich. Maybe a bit better than that. But it’s been a long time.

  2. Another plus to having these at Hardee’s is the wait is always less- I cannot stand the ridiculous waits at Arby’s.

  3. I was disappointed in this sandwich. Flavor was good but there was not nearly enough meat.
    Arby’s has nothing to worry about.

  4. Just stopped and got one. This is NOT the Roast Beef Sandwich I remember. Bun was like it was dipped in water. And the Bbq sauce is different. Had been telling My Wife about getting one ) She never had one). I will recommend She passes. Very Disappointed.

  5. Picked up 2 for $5 today. This has less meat than Arbys. It was barely warm, very soggy and salty. Reg price $4.26!!! We were disappointed. Onion rings were also sub-par. Jim

  6. My understanding is that Hardee’s pours the au jus sauce on the bun, making it soggy.I always thought au jus was a dipping sauce, not something to be poured on.Was excited to hear roast beef was coming back to Hardee’s,but until they stop soaking the buns, I will pass.

  7. I just had one and it was a HUGE disappointment, I wished I could share the pics with you! I will never return to Hardees..

  8. I just got done eating one and it was pretty good, the bun was fresh and they didn’t dip it to make it soggy. They did put a little juice over the meat itself for flavor. I like it best with the Horse Radish & BBQ sauce together!

    1. You needed up BIG TIME. That why ur company lost so many stores as the saying goes* if it is not broke don’t fix it. So sad.

  9. We had this roast beef sandwich at the Granite Falls Hardee’s and it was delicious. We stopped there again on our way thru 3 weeks later. Wish it was available closer to our home. By the way, the Hardee’s in Granite Falls is excellent with great, friendly staff and very clean place.

  10. I was so excited to hear Hardees had brought back the roast beef sandwich until I tried one. Nothing like I remember from the 80’s and 90’s. Bun is different, roast beef flavor is different and the BBQ sauce was not the original sauce. So disappointing. If you’re going to bring back the original, make it the same as you did back in the day. Huge letdown.
