It appears this summer is shaping up to be the fast food coming out party for one of the world’s hottest peppers — the Carolina Reaper.
Sonic has its Reaper Spicy Margarita and now Taco Bell has Steak Reaper Ranch Fries, available as loaded fries or in a burrito form.
Steak Reaper Ranch Fries Supreme features marinated grilled steak, nacho cheese sauce, reduced fat sour cream, tomatoes, and reaper ranch sauce on a serving of Nacho Fries. The burrito version has everything the loaded fries has except it’s all wrapped in a tortilla.

I was excited to get the email today and had the burrito tonight in NYC for $3.49. Unfortunately, to me, I think they dialed down the Carolina Reaper too much and this sauce is no spicier than the existing Diablo sauce. I actually prefer the Diablo because of the hint of sweetness in it. One and done for me. Back to the Chalupa Cravings box until the next big hit.
Yeah, I always play my guitar and eat Taco Bell at the same time too…
Seems like a missed opportunity for Halloween or the Fall season, does it? Or maybe the Reaper returns on Halloween?
I tried the burrito today, though I got the sauce on the side since I’m leery of unknown hot sauces! It wasn’t as hot as I’d feared and I quite liked it. Enough that I’ll let them put it on next time and see how it blends with the rest.
