Why is the new Cinnamon Toast Crunch Ice Cream made with light ice cream, while this is made with frozen dairy dessert? I mean, it really doesn’t matter to me because I want to eat both, but that difference seems odd to me since they came out at the same time. (Spotted by Bob K at Giant Eagle.)

I think the ability to label something as Ice Cream is based on the contents of the entire container.
If two products share the same base, but one has more mix-ins, it might get knocked down to Frozen Dessert.

In order to qualify as ice cream, a product must meet two criteria:
1. Ice cream must contain a minimum of 10% dairy milkfat.
2. Ice cream must have no more than 100% overrun and weigh no less than 4.5 lbs. per gallon.
