The Key Lime ones feature frosted yellow cake with key lime creamy filling. The Sundae ones have frosted chocolate cake with creamy filling. And the Strawberry one, well, that has been around for a few years, so you probably know what it has. (Spotted by Rachel J at Safeway.)
I’m f’ing pissed about this!!! Every part of the key lime cupcakes should be key lime flavored, except for maybe the filling. HARD PASS!!!!! I’m giving Hostess the finger in my mind, RN.

You go, Jane! The only thing I can think is, the Hostess frostings already can be pretty sweet and over-powering, and so Hostess may have thought/determined that making the cake itself Key-lime flavored would have been too much and that some “relief” from the frosting flavor was needed.
Was looking forward to the key lime cupcakes. Not what I was hoping for. Other than the icing, there wasn’t much key lime to it. Chocolate cupcakes taste like chocolate, I was hoping they would be key liime flavor. Disappointed. MB
