McDonald’s Frappé is a photocopy of Starbucks’ Frappuccino. So Burger King’s Frappé is a photocopy of a photocopy. Although, if I were to include Cinnabon’s Mochalatta and Dunkin’ Donuts’ Coolatta, then Burger King’s Frappé is a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy.
Do you know what happens when you photocopy a photocopy, then photocopy that photocopy, and photocopy that?
Let me explain using the following example. Let’s say I were to walk into a Kinko’s at two in the morning, go up to one of their copy machines, pull my pants down, jump up onto the copy machines, gently sit down on the glass plate, and take an awesome photocopy of my butt with its crack going perfectly down the middle of the 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.
Then let’s say I further waste the machine’s toner by photocopying that perfect butt photocopy, taking the result of that, placing it into the feeding tray, photocopying it, and then wash, rinse, and repeat several times. Eventually, that perfect photocopy of my butt won’t be so perfect. My butt crack that went straight down the middle will, instead, drift to the left or right. You can still tell it’s my butt, but it isn’t quite like the original.
So, basically, the Burger King Frappé looks like a Starbucks Frappuccino, but is inferior to the original.
Like McDonald’s, BK’s Frappés come in two flavors, Caramel and Mocha, and are topped with whipped cream and drizzled with mocha or caramel syrup. Wait. Did I say drizzled? I meant splooged, like it was shot out of a fast food mayo gun. The whipped cream dollop on top of the blended coffee beverage, surprisingly, stayed perky after the 10 minute car drive in my air conditioner-less car, which is something I can’t say about the whipped cream on top of the McDonald’s Frappé.
The Burger King website says each Frappé is “made with a hint of coffee.” To be honest, I wish they were made with a KAPOW or BLAMMO of coffee because I thought the BK Frappés had less coffee flavor than the McDonald’s version. Between the two flavors, the Burger King Caramel Frappé is more guilty of hiding the coffee flavor. As someone who likes his iced coffee with lots of cream and sugar, I never thought I’d miss the bitterness of coffee.
Now with all of that said, the Burger King Frappés are like BK’s fries, they’re decent, but I prefer the McDonald’s version. They have a pleasant smoothie consistency and, if you look at the table above, they’re slightly better for you than McDonald’s Frappés. But I really think Burger King should’ve given them a stronger coffee base and I’m disappointed they didn’t take advantage of their partnership with Seattle’s Best Coffee.
To sum up what I think of Burger King’s Frappé, I’ve created a simple formula.
Starbucks Frappuccino > McDonald’s Frappé > Burger King Frappé
And while I’m getting comparisons off my chest…
Broccoli > Carrots > Cauliflower
And…
Pandas > Penguins > Koalas

Brand Eating
Item: Burger King Frappé (Caramel and Mocha)
Price: $3.29
Size: Small/12 ounces
Purchased at: Burger King
Rating: 6 out of 10 (Caramel)
Rating: 6 out of 10 (Mocha)
Pros: Decent. Less calories and sugar than McDonald’s Frappé. Perky whipped cream topping. Nice smoothie consistency. Broccoli. Pandas.
Cons: Weak coffee flavor. Not as good as McDonald’s version. Having an over-photocopied photocopy. Having to put an accent mark in frappé. Cauliflower. Koalas.
Definitely agree on the hierarchy of frappés/frappuccinos. And mostly because of the amount of coffee flavor, as you mentioned. Also agree that the BK version has a nice consistency. Can’t say the same about one of their new smoothies I recently tried; it wasn’t blended well and there were some sizable chunks of ice left. Maybe they’re still learning how to use a blender…
I work at a bk.. The problem with the smoothies is that the time programmed in the blender is not enough to blend completely the ice. :/
You are way off. Carrots trump broccoli.
I noticed that they used whipped cream in a bag not a canned type. I liked it anyways
IMHO, BK doesn’t even compare to McD. I think they made a big mistake when they changed over to Seattle’s Best coffee. It totally changed the taste of their Mocha Joe, which I loved, but after the switch it just didn’t taste the same and I quit buying them and have been buying McD mocha frappe’s ever since.
“…and I’m disappointed they didn’t take advantage of their partnership with Seattle’s Best Coffee.”
It’s funny because Starbucks owns Seattle’s Best Coffee.
I had the same feeling with BK’s Frappe compared to McDonald’s version. Although, I’d only put Starbucks’ frappuccino at top only if it’s the original version and not the kind they have now (unless they’ve changed the formula back. I haven’t been back since they changed)
nice formulas..
not going to try a frappe.
Ever see the movie Multiplicity? THAT’S what happens when you make a copy of a copy. BK’s Frappés are the Lenny (#4) of the frappé food chain.
Don’t forget the Dairy Queen MooLatte and Arby’s Jamocha Shake…
Burger king sells Seattle’s best coffee which is owned by Starbucks corp. makes me wonder what type of instant coffee base is in these new “frappe’s”.
Dairy Queen MooLatte >>>>>>> All
McDonald’s way better bk tasted terrible .
BK frappe’s are just nasty. It tastes like iced milk and had no mocha or coffee flavor in them. Never gonna make that mistake again!
I like them both. After seeing the calories and sugar, I will only get BK from now on. I actually thought mine had too much chocolate in it. I mix it with a little milk and coffee when I get it home. BK’s seems a little less frozen than McD’s though.
I thoroughly disagree. I prefer BK Frappe Caramel. It tastes like a MCDs milkshake from Happy Days. King wins heads up.
BK’s mocha frappe’s are awful, they don’t taste even slightly good, whatever they do to it, ick! Same for their smoothies, definitely sticking with McDonalds!
I had the bk caramel frappe this morning, about an hour ago actually. LOVED IT!! Had a free coupon from the mail for it, so figured i’d try it. I love bk mocha joes btw. I love coffee, do not like iced coffee, for a lil background.
I loved the not over abundance of coffee flavor in the frappe. I t was more caramel, which is what I wanted. It was smooth, creamy, sweet (but just the right amount of all). I would have this for morning, or even as a snack or for something sweet, instead of a shake. I was VERY impressed.
My ONLY concern, the price. Idk if I wanna pay $3.29. I think it’s a little pricey. No, I have never been to Starbucks, I probly never will. I’d rather go to a gas station and get a coffee steamer, that i ADORE for $1.29 LOL
Next to try, I have a free coupon from BK (they sent it in a flyer in the mail) for a smoothie! YUM!! Thanx 🙂
Just tried the Tropical Mango smoothie for the first time today, and it was awesome! I ordered a small, and when they handed it to me, the gal said she accidentally made a medium. I didn’t say anything, but I thought what she handed me WAS a small! Glad I was given a medium for what I paid for it! And yea…I totally concur with you about the prices. Can you say, “outrageous?!?!”
The frappe carmal sounds great! Never had one.
Just tried to BK mocha frappe today to compare to McD’s that I love so well. Upon arrival to the house, I gave it two sips before dumping it in the sink, and then chucking it into the recycle. I’m sorry…but I don’t like bitter, burnt tasting coffee..and that’s exactly what the coffee flavor was like in mine. You guys think this was a flop, or has anyone else noticed the same thing? Yuck. =(
Had a BK caramel frappe yesterday, excellent taste, perfect blend as I
don’t like the coffee to overpower. Will definately get this again.
Maybe a little to pricy but taste was great.
BK has a winner with mocha frappe. Just tried it and I loved it!!…much better than MCD’s
Yes burger kings are much better than Mcds i wish more people knew that
McDonald’s aren’t even good compared to burger kings. I admit when i heard about BK having frappes i was a little grossed out (BK doesn’t appeal to me )But i had gotten a coupon in the paper for a free small frappe so i tried it out….. AMAZING so much better than McDonalds
I tried BK’ s Mocha Frappe because I received a coupon for a free one. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I am not a coffee drinker at all, so I was hesitant to try it, since I don’t care for coffee. I found it to be very good, and hope they continue to offer it on their menu. Thanks for the opportunity to voice my opinion.
Since the day I tried the Mocha Frappe at McDonalds, I haven’t been back to Starbucks. I don’t know if I will even bother to try the Burger King version, I am so addicted to McDonalds. It is the only thing I buy there but its worth the wait in the line!
Burger King is better than McDonald’s. I tried them both so i can comment.
I tried BK’ s Caramel Frappe because I received a coupon for a free one. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I am a coffee drinker. I found it to be very, very good, and hope they continue to offer it on their menu.
You are sooo correct! I couldn’t taste any coffee in the BK frappe. I don’t like how the whip cream and caramel are dumped on the top!! McDonald’s is much better!
I absolutely love the caramel frappe from burger king. It was great I love the heavy cream on top with lots of caramel. I’ve had one from mcdonalds it wasn’t as good.
Wow this is the complete opposite of the order I would have put the Frappe’s in…but maybe that’s because I don’t really like coffee that much. Personally I like Burger Kings the best, then Mcdonalds, and Then if at all Starbucks.
The whipped cream on the BK’s frappe is pretty creepy, it feels like it has a life of its own. I find it strange that it would stay so perky and so thick….it felt like whipped cream/taffy. I do like BK’s burgers but I have to pass on the frappe, it felt too artificial and I wouldn’t be surprised if it had a secret ingredient/chemical that prevents the whipped cream from melting, and the frappe frothy for long periods of time.
IDC what they may have put in it….i really watch my weight, but i will bend the rules anytime for the Mocha…it’s that good!!!!
Love the Mocha Frappe’. It’s so refreshing! I can’t believe it has 410 calories for a small! The whipped cream is unusual, but I thought it was because to me whipped cream is that stuff in the cool whip container. Good thing I got a salad with it instead of my regular double cheeseburger (mmmmm) I guess now you’re gonna tell me their salads have more calories than their burgers?
I love how people that “really aren’t coffee drinkers” are trying to compare good frappe’s to these fast food ones. makes me chuckle…anyway I do absolutly agree with Jen from 5/28 about BK’s “Whipped topping” It really is the mosxt unusual “whipped topping” ive ever had, I had pruchased a BK’s iced coffee, I slammed on my breaks & it went flying, didnt have anything to clean it up with & the whipped topping or whatver the heck it is, sat there as if it was plastic. I have to say I like they’re trying to compete in the iced coffee world, because the people that are addicted to iced coffee drinks know how dang spendy they are! But McDonalds has my vote, theyre a little better. Bk’s just feels wrong in everyway, like it was powdered frappe mix. Love how the host also said freely, no Dbags. lol
I prefer mcd’s Frappes to Bk’s. Mcd’s has caffeine not just flavoring, and I prefer the canned air whipped cream to the thick very dairy whipped topping that bk’s has us putting on them. I do like the bk’s. But that’s only because I work there. Bk’s has coffee flavoring. That’s it. If you want the coffee kick at bk stick with mocha joe’s. By the way to the people who do not like them because the consistence of the frappe or the blob of fudge and caramel on top. it all depends on who makes them. They may not be blending them well enough in the blender, and when I make them I make them look like the picture. Just sayin.
I have a bit of a sweet tooth, so I actually enjoy BK’s caramel frappe. I would compare it to Coffee Bean’s caramel ice blended as these two are similar in taste. I have not had McDonald’s caramel frappe, so I can’t compare them. I have tried Starbucks’ caramel frappacino, and if McDonald’s tastes anything close to that, then I would agree that you can definitely taste more coffee in that. Since I love sweet, I would prefer BK, but to each his own.
The BK frappe is the best! love it, i had a phase where i went everyday for 2weeks. the whipped cream is great and there is a lot of caramel which i love, much better than mcdonalds.
Just wanted to say that I’m kind of new to the whole Frappe thing, but the Burker King Caramel Frappe is the bomb! I love it. I’ve got to try the Mc Donald’s version soon though, to see which is best for me.
I got a mocha from buger king and got plastic in my drink so becarful I guess manger knowingly new the lid on blender cap was broke and still was useing it so be careful when drinking I drink it then had to go to doctor still have not been contacted by Burger King
Starbucks Skinny Mocha Frappuccino way fewer calories–190 for the large, I got a nutrition chart yesterday to check
I had a BK mocha frappe today and it tasted liked a chocolate milkshake, in flavor and consistency. I couldn’t taste the coffee at all.
I totally disagree, I had been frequenting Bigby Coffee, Starbucks, and McDonalds, and soon started frequenting McDonald’s because it was cheaper. After a Couple months of horrible service by every McDonalds in our area which included 5 area McDonald’s I complained several times to the McDonalds website, never got an apologies, or reimbursement for missing items in my order, I decided I would try BK, and after trying BK I will never go back to McDonalds, they always have a quality drink, with superb Whipped Crème on top and I like the GLOB of caramel. KUDOS to BK frappe’s.
BK caramel frappes are better than any other I have ever had
Yes bk’s mocha frappés are just plain nasty and McDonald’s are awesome ??
BK Frappes are absolutely nasty. They taste horrible and leave an after taste. We couldn’t even finish them. McDonald’s are 100 times better.
