SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 5/27/2014

Here are some interesting new and limited edition products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers. If you’ve tried any of the products, share your thoughts about them in the comments.

Koch Foods Snack Cravers Chicken & Waffle Flavored Boneless Chicken Chunks

Chicken & Waffle…yum…flavored…um, maybe not…containing up to 20% of a solution…I have no idea what that means…confused. (Spotted by Christy at Walmart.)

Cooking Light - Pork Roast

Cooking Light - Kale

Cooking Light - Brussels

Cooking Light - Beef Provencal

These aren’t new new because they’ve been available for a year, but were exclusive to BJ’s Wholesale Club. But now you don’t need a membership to enjoy foods from a magazine you probably don’t subscribe to and will probably be gone within the next 10 years. (Spotted by Amanda at Target.)

Special K YoCrunch Yogurt Cereal Bowls

Geez, Special K should just make yogurt already. (Spotted by Amanda at Walmart.)

  1. The chicken and waffle tenders bag I believe the solution is just chemicals to preserve the product.

The yogurt photo looks so crowded! No wonder the yogurt aisle is so crammed with so many types of yogurts. 10 years ago the only yogurts I remember seeing on the shelf was Dannon, Yoplait, and Yocrunch.

  2. Could be wrong, but I’m thinking the Special K cereal is supposed to be mixed into the yogurt. Can’t remember where I’d seen it, but that was the new “it” thing to do, instead of using milk.

Also – the 20% solution in chicken (or pork/turkey) is just brine. Water, salt, sugar/spices for ‘juicier’ meat. Normally it’s in smaller letters, but most, if not all raw frozen chicken/pork/turkey has it.
