When I think of autumn, I also think of barbecue.
Oh wait. I’m confusing barbecue with pumpkin spice.
But if you’re thinking of barbecue this season, Wendy’s has three new BBQ Pulled Pork products that’ll be around until early November. So I guess you can celebrate Halloween with them. The offerings feature shredded hickory-smoked pulled pork and come with one of three custom-crafted sauces — Sweet, Smoky, or Spicy.
The BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich features hickory-smoked pulled pork, crunchy slaw, and one of the BBQ sauce served on a toasted brioche bun.
The BBQ Pulled Pork Cheeseburger has a beef hamburger patty that’s topped with hickory-smoked pulled pork, a slice of natural cheddar cheese, crunchy slaw, and one of three barbecue sauces on a toasted brioche bun.
The BBQ Pulled Pork Cheese Fries consists of Wendy’s Natural-Cut Fries that are topped with warm cheddar cheese sauce, hickory-smoked pulled pork, diced red onions, and your choice of BBQ sauce drizzled on top.
The sandwich has 410 calories, 14 grams of fat, 4 grams of saturated fat, 1230 milligrams of sodium, 48 grams of carbohydrates, and 24 grams of protein. The cheeseburger has 640 calories, 33 grams of fat, 13 grams of saturated fat, 1.5 grams of trans fat, 1260 milligrams of sodium, 42 grams of carbohydrates, and 38 grams of protein. The cheese fries has 470 calories, 23 grams of fat, 6 grams of saturated fat, 1020 milligrams of sodium, 50 grams of carbohydrates, and 15 grams of protein.

We tried the Pulled Pork Cheeseburger Sandwich and I thought it was okay. The patty is so small the pork and sauce overtakes it, it’s basically there for support rather than for flavor. The coleslaw is decent but nothing to write home about. I’d much rather pay a couple extra bucks at a BBQ joint and get a better pulled pork sandwich without a patty and some tastier coleslaw on a fresher bun. Did not try the fries since we hate those things they call fries (ours is always cold, anyone else?)
I ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork Burger. I got home, and was bummed to find out that my burger was actually the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich. I was hungry so I decided to just call it a loss and eat it. I wasn’t too impressed at all. The BBQ was just your standard sauce. Nothing special at all. The pulled pork was more diced than pulled and had a lingering overly pork-y taste. I’m not a fan of coleslaw and it wasn’t made any better by the coleslaw on my sandwich. It had a weird and slimy texture. I won’t order it again.
The amount of pulled pork and BBQ sauce seen in that photo is about three times as much as I got on my fries when I ordered them a few months ago. I think one of the local Wendy’s is a test market location because they had this pork stuff before the others. Definitely going to stick with my chili cheese fries.
I tried the Pulled Pork Sandwich with the smoky BBQ sauce. It was good but in my opinion it needed more and tastier slaw. Wasn’t near as good as the one from Firehouse Subs but it will do in a pinch. It was a little messy as well. I wouldn’t recommend eating it in the car.
I tried the pulled pork sandwich. I thought it had a really good taste and it complemented the bun well. I thought the King’s Hawaiian version at Firehouse Subs was superior, but he Wendy’s one was not as drippy messy. I thought it could use more slaw however on the Wendy’s version. I got the spicy sauce which had a nice kick to it. I would certainly consider ordering it again.
I tried the pulled pork cheeseburger version for the first time tonight and was disappointed. The pork was dry; there was way too much sauce (I got the sweet variety); and the slaw was some shredded mess that didn’t even resemble good cole slaw. To me, slaw is mainly shredded cabbage, which was nowhere to be found on my sandwich. I had a hard time deciding what the green slivers were and finally narrowed them down to either stalks of broccoli or sliced zucchini. There was virtually no mayo to bind it together. It took me three napkins to make it through one sandwich and still had to wash my hands and face afterwards. You flunked my Southern Girl test!
Why do you think it will only be eaten at Halloween time. It is Jan. and I am starving for one right now.
