What’s next in the world of concentrated beverage enhancers? Maybe companies should move on to concentrated salad enhancers or concentrated liquid cheese. (Spotted by Joshua at Walmart.)

McCormick’s web site doesn’t even acknowledge the baking flavors, damnit! I did some additional digging to see how they’re different from normal extracts. It seems to be that extracts are flavors in alcohol, while “baking flavors” are in water (and lose less flavor from oven heat), if McCormick does it the same way as rival (mostly obscure or chi-chi) brands. One blogger who did consumer testing for the product mentions it’s also less concentrated than extract.
I usually get extracts/flavorings from the Asian market, because of the wider range of flavors. I wonder how the prices will compare.
Aren’t mushrooms grown in mostly shade conditions anyways ?
Yeah they should be at least 60% shades to grow well.
I saw the bertoli jars at the store yesterday. They were 5.99! On the plus side Texas has spicy sweet chili Doritos again. More specifically Houston if they’ve been available elsewhere.
Red sauce is so easy to make I can never bring myself to buy the jar
We have sweet chili doritos in Washington State…
Those sauces sound good, but the price… I always just buy whatever sauce is cheapest then add the good ingredients. A dash of sugar and some spices makes any store-brand discount sauce taste so much better. I’ll add my own balsamic and caramelized onions, hah.
i bought the porcini mushroom sauce and it was disgusting to say the least, i literally puked a bit after tasting it an the smell was so putrid it stunk up my whole house, i have 5 candles burning at the moment and i can still smell that nasty sauce. so awful, save your money, i wouldn’t buy any of the other flavors either after this experience.
I made a huge tray of baked ziti and ran short of sauce, so I used a 1/4 of a jar of the porcini and truffle oil. Completely ruined the entire tray. The truffle (rubber flavor) destroyed the rest of the flavors of the dish. The smell, is horrific. I threw out the jar and all the ziti.
