Need a break from that giant container of protein powder you got from GNC? The folks at Wayback Burgers can help…or hurt. It depends on how you feel about drinking cricket or jerky milkshakes.
Their Oreo Mud Pie Cricket Protein Milkshake features vanilla bean ice cream, Oreo Cookie crumbles, chocolate and coffee flavoring, and Peruvian chocolate cricket protein powder. A 22-ounce serving has 24 grams of protein.
The Slim Jim Jerky Protein Milkshake is made using vanilla bean ice cream and barbecue, maple syrup, and hickory spice seasonings. Sadly, the Slim Jims aren’t blended into the milkshake. They just lounge in it. A 22-ounce serving has 20 grams of protein.
The milkshakes are available in Junior (12 oz.) and Regular (22 oz.) sizes and will be around until September 30th.
If you’ve tried either one, let us know what you think of it in the comments.

Love their burgers but I conflicted thoughts about these. I guess my idea for a ricotta-fig shake was too pretentious.
I used to work at DQ and this one summer we had a cricket infestation. We’d find several dozen in the worst places. They were pretty big too. Had to shut down the place down for a few weeks to take care of ’em.
I’ve tried cricket protein bars in 4 different flavors. They’re not as bad as you think they’d be. That is, I thought they would be awful and turns out they are just bad.
lol – i wondered how those would taste.. guess i shouldn’t be too upset they aren’t sold in my area!
America: where eating fast food qualifies as an extreme sport.
If I’m gonna eat crickets there’s gonna have to be some kind of a prize at the end of it.
At first I was certain they couldn’t mean there were really crickets in it, I thought it was just a name (like “mud pie” doesn’t really have mud in it).
Sorry, I do not need protein so badly that I’m willing to eat cricket powder!
Not sure what this says about me, but the insect powder shake looks much more appealing than the jerky shake. The coffee flavor kind of a turn-off, sure, but that has to be better than artificial smoke and Slim Jims.
Um, I wouldn’t drive (ack) 100 miles to try either.
I have eaten cricket tacos in Mexico. The place that serves them is famous. I went there for lunch and I can honestly say it was SO good that we went back for Supper later that same day. I cannot recall a time when I have ever done that, before or since. Kind of like every “foreign” culture’s food–don’t knock it till you have tried it. I can think of many foods that I have heard Americans say they would never eat or try that is now common fare. Sushi ranks up there.
