A short list of things I never imagined I would do in my lifetime:
- Meet Hulk Hogan at a rave
- Go nude skydiving
- Date a vegan
- Help an Eskimo run the Iditarod
- Get a salad from Domino’s
So full disclosure, numbers one through four have not happened…yet. Number five, unfortunately, did happen.
Usually the single man’s trip to Domino’s ends with a medium pizza that will get finished in one night. It usually has ham and pineapple on it and it is usually eaten in the company of Wes Montgomery albums and good vodka. Sometimes, though, you have to switch things up.
The Domino’s salads come prepackaged, and when I say prepackaged, I mean factory sealed and then shipped to Domino’s stores. At least that’s what I read.
Factory fresh salad…YUM!
Besides being factory sealed, it is also a salad you have to put it together yourself. How dare they make us do work!
This isn’t the worst tasting salad, but for the price, it didn’t seem worth it in the end.
The main culprits are the spring mix and the chicken. I know greens aren’t supposed to be flashy but the greens in this salad, even with the Ken’s Lite Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing, just weren’t good. I think the factory seal takes some of the freshness away.
The chicken didn’t seem to lose freshness but it didn’t matter, it was like that semi-grizzle-y chicken Subway had years ago. Tastes like nothing and you get those pieces you can’t chew cleanly through, and nobody likes those.
Nothing was really wrong with the cheddar cheese and apples. Those probably had the freshest taste to them, and if those are your freshest ingredients, your salad is in trouble. The cranberries were few in quantity and you won’t complain about it. The salad didn’t need them.
Cover all this with Ken’s Lite Balsamic Vinaigrette and the result is just so underwhelming. The dressing doesn’t have a strong enough sweet-tart taste that a normal balsamic would, and in the case of this salad, more flavor was needed to cloak its shortcomings.
The only part of the salad that stood out was the pecans. I would buy the salad again just for those, no joke. They were so sweet; I think they may have been candied. They reminded me of pralines you find in ice cream.
If I were you, I’d fork over the extra two bucks and get a salad from Panera that you will actually enjoy.

Pros: Pecans are otherworldly good. Crazy low in calories.
Cons: Spring mix and chicken leave much to be desired. Dressing isn’t flavorful enough. Not meeting Hulk Hogan at a rave.
Met Hulk Hogan at the mall multiple times…he’s truly a nice guy. Can’t picture him even going to a rave though.
I am so insanely jealous of you… He was one of my idols growing up. That’s so cool you got to meet him!
That looks sad! Especially the pouch of cranberries/pecan. MMM FACTORY FRESH SALAD! So basically you are forking over $6.50 while you can do it at home for half of the price.
Actually, you can buy nearly identical salads made by the same company that dominos buys from (ready pac) at Walmart for half the price ($2.98). So I’m guessing you could make it yourself for less than a quarter the price.

I called dominos and they said their salads are 7 oz.
The salads my Dominos offered YEARS ago was freshly prepared in store.. came in a neat little bowl with a snap on lid, ya know.. like other places that make salads fresh. How’d I know it was fresh? Because I always ask for no tomatoes or olives, or other things. So I always get one that is new, minus whatever item and they have to make it; vs just picking out the offender from a pre-made. It’s like asking for no-salt fries, it’s fresh!
However, this.. this concerns me. Glad I never ordered one. I used to love the salads from there to go with my pizza and breadsticks. It seemed fancy.
My co worker just ordered on online and then picked it up thinking it was made fresh. It was under her HOT meal in a bag. Once she got back to work and say it HE!! broke loose. She called the store to return it and called corporate. No where is it advertised as pre packaged. People think they are getting a fresh made salad, not something that looks to be enough to fill half a cup and bland in color. False advertisement.
I can’t even start to figure out how it can only be 190 calories with cheese, nuts, and chicken. Something’s fishy to me.
Fran, I agree. It is what was on the website but you are right, all the ingredients don’t add up to 190.
That bowl looked way too much to be a single serving, and it is:
In the Cal-o-Meter section, on the side list it says “Serving Size: Salad: 1/2 Bowl.”
https://www.dominos.com/en/pages/content/nutritional/cal-o-meter.jsp
So really it’s a 380 calorie salad.
Whoops… looks like I just picked a whole bunch of oopsy daisies.
The ridiculous serving size phenomena strikes again!
How crazy to sell a salad bowl that is two servings.
On the other hand- keeping things separate means that if it was deeply on sale and I had a coupon, I could get it and give the chicken to the feline assistants…
But Spring mix isn’t enticing. It usually has too much in it that’s bitter. All baby spinach would work.
My boyfriend ordered one of these the other day and we were so disappointed that it was all pre-packaged. For the price, you’d expect something legitimately fresh 🙁
I have to agree, not because of the taste. Salad was hella-good, or at least what there was of it, but due o the fact that for the price, it sucked.
Had it had just a few more chicken pieces and some more walnuts, it would have been really good. As it was, it was very, very ‘lean’ or short on the chicken and pecans. At $6, it really wasn’t worth it. Maybe at $3.79 I’d consider it again. 🙂
I didn’t think it was that bad, but I was surprised by the prepackaging and the very small quantities of components other than lettuce. Once everything was put together, it seemed less sparse than expected but I could have used more cranberries and a lot more of the pecans. Bacon would also help.
I really enjoyed the salad. I did not use the dressing. I had my own country french with Orange Blossom Honey. I thought the salad was great. I liked the prepackaged because I felt it was sanitized. I agree, I think it is more than 190 Cal. I ordered the salad with pizza, but I was too full to eat any of the pizza. I do think salad is a little pricey, but I do think the pecans and cranberries gave an extra kick.
Now that I am a grandmother, it is nice to be able to order something for grand kids, and something for me as well.
I had one single. Pecan….. It was amazing. For a salad named chicken apple pecan. I expectec some more pecans and ablsoute 2/10 for me……
