REVIEW: Dairy Queen Frosted Animal Cookie Blizzard

Dairy Queen Frosted Animal Cookie Blizzard

What is DQ’s Frosted Animal Cookie Blizzard?

One of the newest Blizzard treats features vanilla ice cream blended with pink confetti frosting and frosted Animal Cookies.

How is it?

I have a confession to make – I’m a grown man who absolutely loves Animal Cookies (I usually call em “Crackers”) whether they be frosted or unfrosted. All of em. The dry, crispy ones. The little Ringling Bros. boxed nostalgia bombs. And especially the pink frosted cookies.

I never once thought of using Animal Cookies as an ice cream topping, and now I feel like a fool because this Blizzard is borderline perfect.

DQ has basically made a Blizzard that completely mimes the taste of frosted Animal Cookies, while also having a hint of cotton candy and a burst of its vanilla soft serve.

This really tastes like it’s an ice cream that’s three parts vanilla and one-part cotton candy. I have to assume the combo of the cookie icing and the pink confetti icing gives it that taste, and even a look of cotton candy.

I usually find cake icing flavored snacks so disgustingly sweet I wanna bail after a couple of bites, but the flavor and sweetness level is perfect here.

The chopped-up limbs of the poor Animal Cookies who made the ultimate sacrifice maintained a great crunchy texture and added to the experience.

Is there anything else you need to know?

I do have one small complaint, though. It’s the sprinkles on the cookie pieces. Those little ball style sprinkles are hard as a rock normally, so they’re even worse when frozen. There’s enough flavor without them, so I wish those little sugar pebbles were left out of the recipe.

Conclusion:

Frosted Animal Cookies have vaulted their way towards the top of my ice cream toppings list. I will make my own concoction in the future, but I highly doubt it will match this Blizzard.

I’d absolutely recommend this, even with DQ’s out of control prices.

  1. Hands down my favorite blizzard ever. But you do have to be a fan of the frosted animal cookies.

  2. I could not have written this better myself after trying one tonight. This is my favorite Blizzard of all time. The only difference I would give in my review is that I would give it a 10 out of 10 and the only regret I had was buying a small instead of a large or maybe even two larges. This is the Sugar Cookie Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal of Blizzards. GREAT review!!! ???

  3. My friend tried this and said that in order to like this you must have the taste buds of an 8 year old. Honestly, it was kind of a hecked up thing to say, and I don’t entirely agree with them, Vin. I trust your 9/10 score, and I will be trying this at my earliest convenience. I hope it is as good as you say.

    1. Hi, uh, friend here. Or should I say EX friend.. I gave this blizzard 4.5/10 because although it starts off quite good once the animal cookie pieces are gone the party is over. As soon as those bad boys are in your tum you’re left with a sorry excuse of a blizzard. A mush of vanilla ice cream with hints of what was once a lively little concoction of a childhood classic cookie and good ol blizzard. So if you have the taste buds of an 8 year old and can power through that depressing finale then hats off to you my friend.

      1. I don’t know why you make a note of saying ex friend here, considering you obliterated any hopes of our future friendship with your choice : ) of rather tasteless words against Vin and his review for this ice cream. And I do say ( :, this tastelessness definitely extends to your choice of ice cream. Just because something is vanilla doesn’t inherently mean bad, in fact there is a reason why vanilla is the base to practically every ice cream imaginable. It is core to, dare I say, l’expérience du crème glacée. Your lack of knowledge in the fundamentals of the cold, creamy friend we all hold so dear here is showing, and I’m afraid if you’re just looking to masque your ice cream with cookies, I don’t even know why you bother.

Anyways, Vin, what’re you up to later? I’ve suddenly had some free time clear up. How odd!

      2. Maybe you got a naughty naughty blizzard if you ran out of animal crackers. Cause in mine they were equally dispersed and I was able to enjoy them all the way down to the last bites. And honestly even if they were gone, there’s nothing wrong with the vanilla ice cream with fruity undertones. A bit too sweet compared to their other products, but otherwise DQ vanilla is one of the best (chain options) out there, so you can’t go wrong with that.
