Limited Edition 2021 Mtn Dew VooDEW Cam

Normally when I write reviews, I will do extensive history searches for the item(s), but I wanted to go in absolutely blind with this. Googling anything risked me being spoiled.

Limited Edition 2021 Mtn Dew VooDEW Grim

The first thing that caught my eye was the can’s design. Despite being a Halloween item, the cool blues and yellow accent felt oddly out of place. The art with the grim reaper looks very cool with lots of little easter eggs of the number 3 all over. Mtn Dew has nailed a really cool and cohesive brand design these past few years.

Opening it and taking a sniff, I was slapped with (what my brain perceived to be) fruit punch smell. Taking a sip, however, yielded a whole other experience. The initial sip was a sugar shock. I don’t drink a ton of sugary beverages, so when I do it takes my taste buds a few seconds to move past the first sugar rush. After a moment, I was able to start working through the flavor. It was so familiar and at the tip of my tongue.

I poured the rest into a cup with ice and sipped it while trying to distract myself. It was here that I noticed its cloudy white color. The lack of color made my brain even more confused as to what it was tasting. I figured if I wasn’t actively TRYING to figure it out, it would come to me. Then, as if I discovered a new element, I exclaimed, “BLUE RASPBERRY!”

After being more or less sure of this, I sought out some history on the previous versions of this mystery beverage. The first release in 2019 was revealed to be candy corn and 2020 was fruit candy explosion (Skittles). It was also then that I learned the packaging had given hints in previous years as to what the flavor was with its color scheme.

Once again, I had an epiphany: the flavor is blue raspberry taffy. Three reasons I believe this to be right: The pattern of the flavors seem to be candy, the can itself is supposed to give a hint (and it’s blue raspberry blue), and going with the theme of three’s the name Blue Raspberry Taffy is three words. Okay, the last reason might be a little odd but I’m sticking with the pattern of threes here.

My only real complaint is that initial overpowering sweetness, but that’s totally a me thing. Putting it over ice allowed me to really taste the flavor, not just the sugar. I’m so excited to see more people try and share what they taste because I just know that it’s probably going to be all over the board. However, we’ll find out on October 31st what the flavor is from Mtn Dew. I will save a can to (hopefully) cheers my being right.

  1. Let me be the first to say: The second picture, with the close-up of the hooded figured, is very reminiscent (at least IMO) of Edvard Munch’s famous figure in “The Scream”. The colors, the shading, the flow of the lines all scream (heh heh…pun somewhat intended) that famous painting.

    If you don’t know what it looks like (or even if you do, but can’t remember the specifics), Google it now, and LMK what you all think.

    2. Yup, that is totally trying to evoke “The Scream” and we’d put money on it. Not that anybody bets about that kinda thing, but still. The flow of the lines really sealed the deal. Good call!

    6. The first thing that popped in my head when I tried it was it tasted like the red/white/blue rocket popsicles, I know that isn’t a candy but that’s exactly what it tastes like.

    1. Yo.. so I just had one. When I opened it up, straight up smells like gummy worms. That’s what it tastes like to me… a hand full of gummy worms.

      1. Thats my initial reaction, but then there’s an excess of raspberry flavor, which leeds me to think (with the blue hued color scheme) Gummy Sharks.

  3. My first thought when trying this was the flavor of airheads. So my guess would be specifically blue raspberry airhead which is more or less the same thing as your guess.

  4. I like you’re thinking, however i definitely think there is a lemon/lemonade flavor. The yellow in the design would support this as well. i’m going with blue raspberry lemonade.

  5. It has a malt like flavor. And the flavor is…. sure as heck not taffy. Not a lot of taffy going out on Halloween. Every American knows taffy is a summer deal period. You can’t eat SWT in the fall. No go. Taffy screams parades. The flavor, if following the last 2 years, will be a Halloween related flavor. Not all candy falls into this category. SWT is the Candy Cane of Summer. And they wouldn’t do candy.cane flavor for Halloween.
    The flavor is Smarties.

  6. I’m thinking it tastes like a strawberry-kiwi Starburst. If you look at a Tropical Starbursts wrapper…it is a turquoise and yellow-colored wrapper (similar to the colors the Grim Reaper is wearing).

  10. I Taste pineapple and looking at the colors my guess is either Jolly Rancher tropical or either Hi-Chew Chewy Candy Tropical Mix.

  11. I tasted pineapple coconut but the mystery flavor could be just like Dew-S-A; with 3 flavors in 1 can and the flavors were Code Red, White Out and Voltage. This mystery flavors could be Frost Bite, Baja Flash and White Out.

    1. This feels the most accurate to me thus far. Definitely some sort of Pineapple flavor. I only felt like I was tasting raspberry while reading this but before I read it I thought it was a Pineapple Coconut as well. Putting aside the reading bias, I still believe Pineapple is the dominant flavor.

  12. To me I taste no raspberry or lemonade in this VooDew, but what does taste like to me is that it tastes exactly like a handful of strawberry and grape Nerds candies

  14. I instantly got the blue raspberry just from the smell (Voltage drinker here) but it there was another smell I couldn’t place. Then I drank it. I got the impression of a candy as well. I then looked online to see what others were saying. While I agree a candy flavor with blue raspberry, I tasted something familiar and I am going with blue raspberry cotton candy. I think my brain is leaning that way because cotton candy can look like spider webs? Not sure but that’s my guess.

    1. I think it smells like fruit punch, and tastes like a Fruit Punch Now & Later. Everyone else in my family is saying Blue Raspberry…and my brother said the same thing…he detected a bit of cotton candy.

      the number 3 but not on an Easter egg I believe it to be a headstone & there’s also one in the Middle of the spider web and on the spider. The bule of the can. And a combination of yellow and green in the clouds and the report.
      And one I think you missed the moon the yellow part looks like a lemon…
      Smell & taste: first wiff citrus and no I didn’t get a surger rush but I drink a lot of surgery drinks and very sweet ice teas.
      My guess: I believe it is blue razberry lemonlime
      I make home mad blue razberry lemonade all the time with Italian syurps and the voo dew is very close

  16. My immediate taste was white Mystery Airheads, but the then I picked up a bit of bubblegum. From the smell I get straight fruit punch. Now I’m wondering if white Mystery Airheads are fruit punch bubblegum. Had their flavor finally been unlocked?!?!?!

  17. my first instinct was that it tasted like a melted rocket pop… which I think is blue raspberry? reading the comments I also can see fruit punch and pixie stick but it is definitely very candy and very good!!

    Ive seen comments of the hint ‘3’ witch both words have 3 but personaly i think its just cuz its the third voodew
    But colors blue and green…fundip is blue untill u lick it and it turns green and the after taste is a dead giveaway with the taste of the stick

      I’m not absolutely certain, but I think it’s a flavor from the fun dip.

  20. It tastes just like air heads taffy the mystery flavor and is the same white color also. That’s what I think it is and I absolutely love it.

    1. The very first taste tastes like either sweet tarts or like sour patch kids but the after taste is most definitely cotton candy so I’m goin with cotton candy

What I really thought it was but the first step I thought it was like a blue cotton candy type of flavor and that’s what I actually was blue cotton candy flavored so I the pinenuts blue cotton candy flavored what maybe like a little bit of sugar mixed and like a lot of sugar I think it’s OK I could be like a little more less sugar I would recommend to keep it up I’ll just recommend to take out some sugar out of it

  28. It’s definitely Blue Jolly Rancher y’all, I’d almost be willing to put money on it. The ONLY reason I say this is, just recently we have began decorating for Halloween, and our candy dish has jolly ranchers. We’ve been eating on them for a couple weeks. The Jolly Rancher flavors are fresh in my memory, and because of this, I was able to pinpoint exactly how it tasted (to me, anyways). If it’s not Blue Jolly Rancher, I’m almost certain it’s Blue Popsicle (or Blue Raspberry Popsicle).

    1. I stand corrected. When I sip, it tastes like blue Jolly Rancher. I just took a swig, and it definitely tasted like blue cotton candy…. I can’t decide! Lol

    1. I take that back… Blue raspberry now and later candy… Look at the box it even has a yellow circle In the corner that looks like the moon on the bottle

  31. Smarties, Airheads, or Gummi Worms are what jump out as possibilities.
    There’s a lot of overlap with those 3 flavors.
    VooDew3 is very sweet, but not overly specific to any one fruit, which is why I think a lot of people call out “blue raspberry”, “cotton candy”, or “fruit punch”.
    Vaguely fruit-like, but indistinct…

  33. My first taste is definitely strong in a lemon or lime flavor. After a while there’s a hint of sweetness and maybe blue raspberry… And it’s familiar. I’m thinking Air Heads. I’m gonna have to get some this weekend and compare. ?

  37. I tried this a few days ago and thought it might have been blue raspberry airhead. But since nobody should ever drink a whole 20oz soda in one sitting, it’s been marinating in my fridge. Now, trying it in it’s flattened state, without the fresh carbonation to distract, it hit me in the face clear as day: Blue Raspberry ICEE. This tasts JUST like an old melted ICEE that I’ve brought home from many a movie.

  40. When I first tried it I smelt a fruity flavor but took a sip and I got a jolly ranch vibe off of it so im thinking it may be a blue raspberry jolly rancher
