What is Silk Nextmilk?
Silk Nextmilk is a plant-based blend starring oat mik, soy milk, and coconut milk, among other, less pithy ingredients. It comes in both whole fat and 2% reduced fat varieties (this review focuses on the whole fat option). Rather than claiming to faithfully imitate dairy milk, Silk boldly declares that this alternative “tastes so rich and creamy, you won’t miss dairy.” I’m such a milk lover that I might as well be Miss Dairy, so we’ll see about that…
How is it?
I can only describe the process of transferring the Nextmilk from carton to glass as a “glug.” Even before the taste test, it certainly looked rich and creamy. Side-by-side with a glass of dairy milk (Nextmilk on the right), I found that the Nextmilk seemed the teensiest bit darker in color, but the really noticeable aesthetic difference was that the Nextmilk was so thick that after the first swig, a conspicuously cloudy coating clung to the inside of the glass for the rest of my sipping session.
My first impression of the taste was “mildly nutty,” which is not shocking given the ingredients list. Fittingly, it reminded me of both oat and soy milk. Knowing that there’s coconut in the mix also explains the faint hint of sweetness I detected, but overall it’s more earthy than sweet. Excuse me for being particular about semantics (I’m a textbook editor, it’s literally my job!), but I’d actually change the branding to “texture so rich and creamy,” since I feel like that’s where this Nextmilk really shines. The taste is certainly pleasant, but I was mostly impressed by the smooth consistency, so full and satisfying it even kept my hangry mood at bay between meals.
Anything else you need to know?
The carton proudly proclaims that this milk shares the same six key nutrients found in dairy (Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, Phosphorus, and Riboflavin), and it does all that while being free from not just dairy but also gluten, carrageenan, and artificial color and flavors! In my personal opinion it also makes for a pretty luxurious bowl of cereal.
Conclusion:
While you won’t mistake Nextmilk for its dairy cousin, it’s a plantastic substitute for any number of audiences, no matter if you’re lactose intolerant, vegan, a novelty-seeker, or just craving some velvety texture.

sounds kind of like not milk, would you say the taste and texture are similar to that brand?
I friggin’ love Not Milk. I want to get this to compare, but I feel like this will be closer to Oat Milk. Which is fine by me.
I have had to drink plant alternative milk for decades this is the first and only one ever that does mimic whole milk and it fooled everybody (unless you say something) it is rich and creamy, can be used to make ice cream, creamer for coffee (yes the first real creamer in coffee). I actually sip a cup of it for dessert, it is that good. I love pineapples but I can’t get past the pineapple in the next milk because pictures doesn’t belong milk
Next milk is way better than not milk
Ooh, I actually haven’t had Not Milk so I can’t say, but now I’ll definitely seek it out so I can compare!
My daughter drinks next milk, she is 5 and cannot have dairy. We tried not milk but she did not like the taste.
I like it’s taste better than “not milk”, but both suffer from one flaw. They don’t work for making lattes and cappuccinos because they won’t hold their foam. I’ve tried with both a steamer and a frother – and I get flat, “milky” coffee instead of a whipped, foamy treat.
Great review, very thorough description of item and nice pictures to demonstrate how rich it is

Thank you!
This is tangential to the review itself, but how does one become a textbook editor? That sounds like a fascinating gig.
By having a degree in editing?
Haha, publishing is a bit of a stereotypical “English major” career but yes my pathway was pretty similar to applying for any other office job, aided more specifically by the awesome Bookjobs.com!
My biggest test for non-dairy varieties is seeing how well they froth after a quick trip to the microwave. I enjoy lattes and have yet to find a solid alternative that froths as well as whole milk.
NEXT MILK is ABSOLUTELY the best tasting milk substitute now available!! I’ve tried them all….oak milk, almond milk, etc…etc… Straight up with cookies, over your breakfast serial, in your coffee….hands down the best tasting veggie milk on the market. Problem is….very hard to find. Walmart and Target seem to have the monopoly on it. Hopefully as more demand happens, other main stream stores will stock it. It’s an amazing blend of almond, oat and coconut that produces a VERY similar taste and texture of real whole milk. Make sure to get the whole fat version which is comparable to whole milk.
I come late to the taste test, but, my grocery store here on coast of Central California has just stocked this product. Taste is a subjective thing, to each person’s tastes buds?. I have in my refrigerator at all times Whole Milk and Califia Non flavored Almond Milk. As to taste of Next Milk. Can take or leave, better than other Silk products.
I like a thick froth and this will not do so. (Whole milks best for me!). I also do not like the idea that there is Oil in the milk, Both Coconut and Sunflower. It has more sugar and salt. (have to watch my salt intake). Next Milk compared to my Califia in creaminess are equal. Though taste, mine has a almond finish, Next Milk definitely more a real milk taste. Due to nutritional values in Sugar and Saturated fats for my diet I will remain with present brand. I will mention that I noticed there are 3 fiber in product. That is good!.
