(Take My Idea posts are the results of dreams. They are absolutely not real products…yet.)
The Choco Taco is DEAD.
I’m sorry I had to remind those of you who were fans. I think our friends at General Mills could create something that might help us forget that Unilever used its Unicleaver to eliminate the popular frozen novelty. My idea is for the General Mills-owned brands, Old El Paso and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, to come together in holy moly matrimony to offer taco shells coated, baked, or blasted with Cinnamon Toast Crunch’s Cinnadust.
This concept popped into my head after learning about Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bugles. I completely forgot Bugles is a brand under the General Mills umbrella. Okay, full disclosure, I totally didn’t know it’s been a General Mills product for decades. When eating them, I’m less concerned with who makes them and more concerned with putting them on my fingertips and pretending I’m a nervous kaiju biting my claws because I fear Godzilla is coming after me.
Anyhoo, the crunchy snack got me thinking about other crunchy snacks that could be Cinnadusted, which led me to spend some time that sane people would spend watching TV to look up other General Mills brands. Eventually, my eyes locked onto Old El Paso, which brought back memories of those Taco Bell Chocolate Taco and Cinnamon Nacho Dessert Kits that came out almost a decade ago, which in turn made me imagine Old El Paso Cinnamon Toast Crunch Crunchy Taco Shells. Cha-ching!
But it shouldn’t come in the typical taco shell shape because, from my experience with those Taco Bell shells, that just makes it difficult to stuff ice cream into it. Old El Paso has those Stand ‘n Stuff Shells, which will make it much easier to slide all those sweet fillings in. Heck, make it a dessert kit like those Taco Bell ones and include bottles of Cinnadust and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Creamy Cinnamon Spread and a small box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch Minis Cereal. Cha-synergy! Also, the packaging could suggest using General Mills-owned Häagen-Dazs ice cream as the taco’s filling. If Häagen-Dazs is too “fancy” for lesser brands, just add an umlaut to Cinnädust. Now it looks worthy of Häagen-Dazs.
Sure, the Choco Taco might make a Dunkaroos-like comeback a decade from now. But that’s a decade from now, and I think General Mills is in an excellent position to fill our dessert taco needs.
So, please, take my idea for free, General Mills.
I could see this being excellent when covered also with a little powdered sugar and filled with apple or cherry pie filling! Maybe a drizzle of caramel over that would be the icing on the cake err uhh dessert taco 😀
Brilliant! Perhaps with Dulce de Leche ice cream?
Great idea, Marvo! General Mills can also market it to the max! Sure, this sweet shell would be perfect as part as an easy dessert or a fast snack on the go – but why not as part of a “healthy” breakfast? General Mills could suggest that busy parents take the sweet shell, plop in a banana with a few dollops of yogurt and a sprinkle of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal course (of course!) to send kids to school with a “nutritious and delicious” morning meal!
Noooooo
i found the CTC Bugles at a 7-Eleven in Oregon. pretty good. could use a teeny touch more salt, tho. and i find they’re a bit lacking in the distinct coconut oil crisp that regular and nacho bugles have. i can easily eat a few at a time and set the bag aside – tasty but not addicting.
when my sister and i were kids and learning how to be independent in the kitchen, one of our favourite sweet snacks was a flour tortilla, pan fried dry until almost crispy and warm, then a bit of butter melted over the surface, sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar. a giant flat chewy-crispy toast. so yeah, this idea works for me. 🙂
Butter, cinnamon and sugar on a flour tortilla works for me, I don’t think I’d like it on a corn tortilla though, corn I want salt on
Honestly? Seems like the perfect kinda drunk meal to me and I absolutely would try such at least once but I imagine the taco filling would just overpower the shell itself. Beats me tho, I would really have to try such a thing to really know.
Bugles that can actually fit on your finger are more rare than a four-leaf clover. Biggest false advertising ever.
You just need thinner fingers, Mason!
I’ve never found an intact Bugle that didn’t fit on my fingers. Sounds like a you problem, Mason.
Almost every Bugle I’ve had in the past few years is flat and closed up.
They did it
I knew this idea was a hit the minute I read it. They may have already had it on the drawing board but heck with it we’ll never know so take credit anyway!
Congrats on the win Marvo!
Well, they did it. Cinnamon Toast Crunch Old El Paso taco shells are now a thing. Might be hard to track down but they exist now on a store level. Enjoy!
