FAST FOOD NEWS: McDonald’s Quarter Pounder Deluxe and Premium Chicken Deluxe Sandwich

McDonald's Scaled Back Menu2

McDonald’s has been testing streamlined menus for several weeks. The photo above was taken at a restaurant in Ohio, which is a known test location for McDonald’s.

Update: The new menu has begun rolling out nationwide.

Looking at the menu above, the number of Extra Value Meals has been trimmed back to eleven, thanks to cuts to the Quarter Pounder and Premium Chicken Sandwich lines. The number of Quarter Pounder options have dropped from five to three. Goodbye, Bacon Habanero Ranch and Bacon & Cheese Quarter Pounders!

If you’re a Deluxe Quarter Pounder eater, you’re probably wondering why the Quarter Pounder Deluxe is labeled as “New” and the word “Deluxe” is now at the end of the name. Aren’t they the same?

They are not.

Both versions have a beef patty, tomato, mayo, American cheese, pickles, lettuce, mustard, and onions, but the new Quarter Pounder Deluxe has a sesame seed bun that replaces the Deluxe Quarter Pounder’s Bakery-Style Bun and it also has ketchup.

The Quarter Pounder Deluxe has 580 calories, 32 grams of fat, 13 grams of saturated fat, 1.5 grams of trans fat, 1200 milligrams of sodium, 44 grams of carbohydrates, and 29 grams of protein.

Now that I’ve made your brain all twisted with Quarter Pounder Deluxe and Deluxe Quarter Pounder differences, let’s move on to the Premium Chicken Sandwiches.

The Classic, Chicken Club, and Ranch BLT Premium Chicken Sandwiches have been replaced by the Premium Chicken Deluxe Sandwich that features an artisan roll, a tomato slice, mayo, leaf lettuce, and your choice of a grilled or crispy chicken fillet. If you’ve eaten a Classic Premium Chicken Sandwich, you might be thinking this new chicken sandwich sure sounds like the Classic one. Well, they’re pretty much the same sandwich except, just like the Deluxe Quarter Pounder…or was it the Quarter Pounder Deluxe, it has a different bun.

A Premium Crispy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich has 530 calories, 22 grams of fat, 4 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 1000 milligrams of sodium, 59 grams of carbohydrates, and 25 grams of protein. The grilled version has 370 calories, 9 grams of fat, 2 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 830 milligrams of sodium, 45 grams of carbohydrates, and 29 grams of protein.

SPOTTED ON SHELVES: Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzel Poppers (Original, Cinnamon Sugar, and Three Cheese)

Snyder's of Hanover Pretzel Poppers (Original, Cinnamon Sugar, and Three Cheese)

I wish the two flavored ones were filled with something à la Combos. Perhaps a vanilla creme in the Cinnamon Sugar and more cheese in the Three Cheese. Or I guess I could break them in half and use canned whipped cream and cheese to add a filling. Junk Food Guy has a review of the Original flavor. (Spotted by Raveen at Jewel-Osco.)
