Limited Edition Mocha Caramel Latte Oreo Cookies Package

When Oreo announced its new limited edition flavor, I thought it was Groundhogs’ Day. Haven’t we seen a coffee-flavored one already?!

After scavenging this site’s archives, there have been the following varieties:

Okay, close, but not quite this exact flavor. I see you, Mondelez! There’s basically no additional R&D needed if you just mash up previous cremes, right? After Oreo runs out of existing mash-ups, I wouldn’t be surprised if we started seeing savory flavors like the current state of the ice cream aisle…

Limited Edition Mocha Caramel Latte Oreo Cookies Uneven

Lack of uniqueness aside, it’s still a tasty Oreo. When I opened the package, the smell reminded me of 7-Eleven or Meijer Express, and I mean that in a good way. It’s that very distinct smell of syrupy, artificially aromatic coffee. It’s almost Pavlovian for me as I can just hear the ding of the door opening and the sweet coffee aroma immediately tickling my nostrils. The scent also helped me overlook how messy the creme looked. I was surprised not to see neat rows.

This scent comes from the dual creme layers of supposedly mocha latte and caramel. I say supposedly because the tan part carries the team. It has all the flavor, so I thought it was caramel latte filling. I tried the darker brown creme repeatedly, but I couldn’t pick up anything distinct except for a flat, sweet note. So, I concluded that it was there just visual interest. I thought the darker brown filling was gratuitous because the cookie itself did a fine job being the chocolate portion of mocha. It also added a much-needed depth, a counterpoint to the caramel sweetness. Can you tell that I’m #TeamCookie?

But apparently, it’s mocha latte and caramel cremes. I really didn’t get that at all, and I have gingerly peeled apart the layers on many a cookie at this point.

Overall, there have been more exciting limited edition Oreo cookies, but I think this did the job of emulating a caramel mocha latte. I am, however, still left wondering if Oreo’s coffee flavors have caffeine in them.

Chocolate Confetti Cake Oreo Cookies Package

In celebration of Oreo’s 110th birthday, Mondelez has released Limited Edition Chocolate Confetti Cake cookies. Oreo is the world’s most successful cookie, sold in over 100 countries with sales of more than $500 billion. Isn’t it a bit gauche for a rich and famous cookie to ask us to buy something for its 110th birthday? I’m getting “Bilbo celebrating his eleventy-first birthday” vibes from this. But, like a good little hobbit, I can’t help but attend and see how the food is.

The cookie contains two crème layers: standard chocolate and a buttercream-flavored white crème with confetti mixed in. They’re sandwiched between classic chocolate Oreo wafers sprinkled with even more confetti.

Birthday cake flavor can be tricky to get right, and it takes a special kind of alchemy to distill the essence of birthday cake and infuse it into a snack. I felt regular Birthday Cake Oreo were a rare misfire from the brand. They tasted too artificial, less like alchemical magic, and more like a laboratory accident.

These are much better. The confetti is eye-catching and stands out from the dark cookie. The buttercream filling has a creamier flavor than the standard white crème, though it’s also a little artificial tasting. However, the chocolate crème and cookies manage to overpower that defect. The result is a creamy chocolate cake flavor that evokes a real cake. They’re maybe even better with milk than regular Oreo.

You may ask how I figured out the white crème tastes bad by itself if the two layers are smushed together. You see, like a hobbit, my social life revolves around food. I have a Cookie Friend. My friend and I sample every new Oreo, carefully assess, and then rank them. We’re methodical in our process, so we pried the two fillings apart to critique them independently. He pointed out these cookies seemed grittier than regular Oreo, and perhaps it’s due to the confetti. I don’t know if I agree, but you don’t disregard the opinion of your Cookie Friend, so I’m reporting it here. Then again, he also thinks that Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Oreo are good dunked in Screwball peanut butter whiskey, so can you really trust his judgment?

Chocolate Confetti Cake is an excellent addition. I think they’re a natural addition to Oreo’s growing collection of flavors, and Mondelez should consider making them permanent. These are a limited edition, so I recommend grabbing them when you see them.

Oreo Thins Extra Stuf Pkg

Oreo Thins debuted in 2015 as a thinner, crispier iteration of America’s Favorite Cookie. Initial reactions were varied — are these the Diet Coke of Oreo? Are these supposed to be marketed as a higher volume, lower calorie cookie? Or something else entirely?

While it is true that Thins carry a greater caloric bang for your buck, with four cookies equaling the calories of two regular Oreo, I view these as something entirely different: a satisfying crispy bite that falls somewhere between an OG Oreo wafer and an airier, Kit Kat-adjacent bite.

Their gentle crunch is notably unique when compared to the more abrasive classic wafer, and I really enjoy it. As much as I enjoyed the Thins and their various flavor offshoots, I’ve always had one qualm — I want more creme filling! Nearly seven years after their debut, Nabisco has answered my (silent) call with Oreo Thins Extra Stuf.

Notably, these aren’t Double Stuf, but “extra.” So exactly how much is extra? My gut feeling is that it’s even more than double the creme amount from original Oreo Thins, which is interesting because why not call it Double? Double Stuf is the pinnacle of Oreo perfection and applying that iconic title to the Thins line simply makes sense. But perhaps it’s too tricky because these don’t have the same amount of filling as full-sized Double Stuf. Okay, I’m confusing myself now. Either way, I’m not going to complain, there’s more than enough creme in there, and it’s great.

The creme is so much more pronounced than original Thins. It pushes against the thin and crispy wafer and really lets its presence be FELT. The taste is the same that you’ve known (and worshiped?) for your entire life, and the cookie has a gentle crunch, but it isn’t crumbly or lacking structural integrity. Bittersweet crunchy cocoa meets smooth sweet and sugary creme filling. What’s not to love?

The most exciting aspect of this overdue upgrade to the Thins line is the possibility of Extra Stuf’d limited offerings down the road. Thins have had a handful of more “adult” flavors never offered as full-sized big bro Oreo, most notably Coconut and Pistachio, that I would love to see beefed up with some extra creme.

Oreo Thins Extra Stuf feels like the rare product that has the potential to win over both fans and skeptics of the original release. If you liked the original version, you’d probably dig these, and if you didn’t, that extra Stuf might make you a believer.

Oreo Frozen Dairy Dessert Bars and Sandwiches Boxes

Cookies n’ cream ice cream is a choice that feels too obvious and not obvious all at once. I asked friends and family to name their favorite frozen flavors and only one said cookies n’ cream, yet the International Dairy Foods Association says it’s America’s third favorite behind only vanilla and chocolate.

Perhaps it’s like when you ask someone their favorite movie; chances are they’re going to name the flick they’ve seen a handful of times that’s creatively stimulating, not the comfort film they’ve put on every single time it’s been on cable. No one thinks of Grease 2, and no one thought of cookies ‘n cream, including me. However, once I mentioned the flavor, most recognized it was a favorite, with many then naming a version that included Oreo. So, a lot of you may be latently excited to hear Oreo has released new frozen dairy dessert bars and sandwiches.

The Oreo Bars come in a box of five and, to my delight, include Per Container nutrition facts alongside the Per Serving. Want to eat all five in a row? Oreo knows you do and doesn’t judge. They’re wrapped up in cute little sleeves reminiscent of Oreo cookie packaging, but the bars themselves aren’t the cutest.

The outside of each treat is lumpy and dull, but it communicates it’s going to taste like an Oreo wafer. While they could’ve rolled the bar in Oreo crumbles, I appreciate that cookie chunks are instead mixed into the chocolate coating. The texture was unlike any I’ve experienced. If there was a more delicious way to say sandy I would, but please take my word that it’s incredibly satisfying sand. The coating didn’t have the crack many may be seeking, but with the crunch of the cookie I didn’t mind it being a bit softer.

The ice cream was a sweet and thin cookies n’ cream. This is definitely not America’s bronze medal wearing variety since it lacked velvety depth, but paired with the Oreo cookie pieces it made perfect sense as a stand in for the crème. I went back and forth wishing it was richer but enjoying that it tasted like its namesake. Though if that’s what they were going for, I think a nut milk-based ice cream would’ve fared similarly and it felt like a missed opportunity to make these dairy-free like the cookies.

The Oreo Sandwiches are a delight! I couldn’t help but feel like a kid holding what looked like a giant Oreo sandwich cookie. No “Per Container” here (all four are 840 calories for those interested), but that may be because they’re more substantial. The wafers tasted just like an Oreo cookie wafer. Not as crunchy, but crunchy for an ice cream sandwich. They didn’t soften as I munched through them, yet I was able to eat the whole thing without the wafers smushing down the ice cream and pushing it out the sides.

The sandwiches held the same ice cream as the bars and I felt the same about it in this format, but it was more at home against the bitter cocoa taste of the wafers than the sweet chocolate coating on the bar. Here it made the whole bite taste like an Oreo dipped in milk. And yes, the sandwiches will twist open.

Both boxes tease that each frozen treat is an Oreo playfully reimagined, and I would say each one was exactly that and would recommend either. But if you want the unquestionable “you’d still know it’s Oreo flavored with a blindfold on” experience, go for the sandwiches.

All in all, Oreo has put out some spectacular cookies n’ cream ice cream novelties that may just have me more likely to name the flavor as my favorite.

Oreo Cakesters look like what would happen if you accidentally let a regular Oreo slip from your fingers while dunking it in a glass of milk and letting it sit and swell in the dairy while you design and build a Rube Goldberg machine to retrieve it from the glass’ bottom.

I could give you a history lesson of these soft-baked Cakesters that’s as bloated as the cookie itself. But all you need to know is that they debuted back in 2007, were available for several years, had a few varieties, and then disappeared from shelves while we were probably all enamored with shiny, new limited edition Oreo flavors.

But now Oreo Cakesters are back, and they brought along a Nutter Butter version.

After allowing my taste buds to experience Oreo Cakesters after a decade-long absence, I reread my very positive Oreo Cakesters review from 2007. My thoughts about their flavor haven’t changed, but I like them less now than I did back then.

Overall, they’re a nice sweet treat that tastes like icing-less Hostess CupCakes, Ho Hos, and Ding Dongs, but in a better portion control size. However, the cakey cookie’s slight greasiness and/or the fact they don’t taste like Oreo cookies might deter first-time eaters from becoming second-time buyers.

The Nutter Butter version smells and tastes like the original cookie, which, again, I can’t say about the Oreo one. There’s a nutty taste in the soft cookie that enhances the creme, which is made with real peanut butter.

While I enjoy regular Nutter Butter, and these taste similar, I find myself wanting the Oreo ones slightly more. Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, but the light-colored cakey cookie is as greasy as the dark one but has a drier texture.

Even though they were on shelves for longer than the original runs of Crystal Pepsi and Pepsi Blue combined, I can’t believe there was a lot of interest in bringing back Oreo Cakesters. They don’t taste like regular Oreo cookies and the half dozen new Oreo flavors released every year are far more interesting.

Although, the “in” thing right now is bringing back discontinued products. Plus, it has been 10 years since they disappeared from shelves, and I guess if there’s a good time to bring back something, whether it’s cookies, TV shows, or pets, it’s a nice round 10 years after they cease to exist.
